A new season starts and the word of the day is « plan ». Yes, plan your driving year activities and you will only have to follow your own instructions.

Spring means preparation of equipment, therefore the harness and vehicles cleaning, the small touch up and repairs, the spring cleaning of the barn.

Your horses must adapt to the new warm season; to help them out, you have to brush, brush, brush and brush even more. Their winter coat is more « sticky » than ours! Their training should start, for the horses that took a break this win-ter, or has to increase, for the horses that continued being trained during winter.

In summary, identify what you would like to do this year, register to the activities (especially the SLCDC…) and practice your driving (whip or groom) skills. Do not forget to update your horses « Coggins Tests » as well as your insurances and you will be ready to start fresh for a new season!

I wish you a lot of fun. Enjoy!

Vernissage for Janet Mann - an Illustrator, a Cartoonist and an Animal Lover

Bill Gardner and Francine Portenier love Janet’s art work and its humour and wanted to in-troduce her to their friends. They prepared amazing hors d’oeuvres and invited over Alec Olavson and friends to play music during the event. Janet has been displaying her artwork for everyone’s enjoyment and for sale. It was a suc-cess, there were more cars than the huge driveway could handle, therefore people parked on the street. It was a lovely evening, and I am sure that this is opening a new promising market for Janet. Note that Janet can also create custom illustrations of favourite friends/pets from photos. Do not hesitate to contact her to know more. Thank you very much to Bill and Francine, two of our SLCDC members, helping Janet, another SLCDC member. What an original

Cheval Québec ARAMIS Evening– March 18th, 2017

Since a few years, Cheval Québec wants to honor various disciplines representatives: competitors, officials, volun-teers, etc. that supported the development in Quebec, of sport and recreational equine activities. This year, the AR-AMIS Evening was held at the Plaza hotel, in Valleyfield. There were many candidatures in the different categories. The finalists were selected by a jury composed of five people: François Ferland, Eric Rousseau, Jean Turcotte, Marcel Marcoux and Germain Brunet. During the evening, the finalists came up on the stage waiting for the enve-lope opening identifying the winner of the Aramis trophey of their category.

Hors-d’oeuvres were served at each table, but beverages could be purchased at the bar at the end of the room.

The list of winners is available on the follow-ing WEB site:

TREC POR TRAINING — BILINGUAL

The SLCDC Board of Directors is listening to you. In 2016, we have held a TREC Level 1 training session and the attestations have been sent to the participants by Cheval Quebec in March 2017.

You have asked that we organize another training session concerning the POR (orientation course). This is what we have done in 2017.

Therefore, we are very happy to invite you to the training session that will take place June 17th and 18th, at la

Cabane a sucre des Pins Verts, 751 Chemin St-Emmanuel, St-Clet, Quebec, J0P 1S0.

The training will be done in French and in English, by the very well known clinician Frederic Pierrestiger. Here is a brief biography of this trainer:

Captain of the TREC Canadian team, he has participated to three world championships and to two Open Euro-pean championships as rider. International Judge, he has been member of the Jury at the Belgium European Championship in 2014 and to the Spain World Championship in 2016. Frederic Pierrestiger is also administra-tor on the International Equestrian Tourism Federation (FITE).

As this training will be held on two days, we have thought of organizing a supper for participants, friends, vol-unteers and spectators, Saturday night June 17th, at the same place. Reservations have to be done prior to June 10th. .

If you want to participate to this training, or want to come for supper with the group, or would like to volunteer, please contact Diane Goyette (450) 455-0794 or [email protected].

You will be able to find more details on our web site: www.attelagestlazare.org.

If you would like to know about the 2017 TREC activi-ties, check the Cheval Quebec calendar of activi-ties web site.
