COMPENDIUM OF CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH THE MORAL CONSCIENCE

SIN 398. What are vices? Vices are the opposite of virtues. They are perverse habits which darken the conscience and incline one to evil. The vices can be linked to the seven, so-called, capital sins which are: pride, avarice, envy, anger, lust, gluttony, and sloth or acedia.

St. Leo annual Lenten Fish Fry will begin on March 8th this year from 4:30-6:30 pm. The Fish Fry is a combined effort of the Knights of Columbus, who cook the

We need parishioners to bring desserts. If your last name begins with the letters J-M on March 22th, letters N-Q, on March 29th, letters R-T on April 5th, letters U-Z on April 12th. We need everyone to

come support our Fish Fry - bring your family and friends! UPDATED COST: $10.00 Adults, $6.00 Children under 12 you can get an extra piece of fish for $2.00. Your meal Includes fried or baked fish, hush puppies,

fries or baked potato, white beans, cole slaw, dessert, and drink.

There will be mandatory training for new and returning Lectors, EMHC and Hospitality from 9:15am-10:15am on March 24th, 31st and April 7th. Only one training needs to be attended. Prayerfully consider giving your time to one of these ministries. Please contact Megan at [email protected] to let her know what day will work best for you!

A LENTEN REFLECTION SERIES The four days of “the Passion” are the climax of the Gospels...the Gospel writers don’t’ waste a single line. You can understand these events with greater insight

than ever before. Pope Benedict XVI invites us to think of the Passion, not just as suffering, but also as the passion of a lover. For in the cross, we see God fully revealed as “a lover with all the passion of a true love". Jesus doesn’t want our applause. He wants our hearts. Are you ready to draw closer to

Jesus in his passion than you ever have before? There will be 3 different times this series will be offered. Thursday mornings from 10:00-11:00am in the Parish Hall—March 21st, March 28th and April 4th; Thursday evenings at 8:00pm at Newman House—March 28th, April 4th., April 11th and ending on Friday, April 19th.; Sunday mornings at 9:30am—in the Parish Hall. March 17th, March 24th, March 31st and April 7th.

STAND FIRM IN THE LORD It is not hard to imagine, in this age of wars, evil groups bent on the destruction of humanity, and political follies, that the words of Saint Paul were so accurate, even for his time. It seems that the world never changes. Paul says, Many . . . conduct themselves as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is their destruction . . . Their minds are occupied with earthly things (Philippians 3:18, 19). The result is the destruction of innocent people and of the Earth itself. But Paul says to the Philippians, our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we also await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ (3:20). He will change our lowly body to conform with his glorified body (3:21). Note that he says body rather than bodies. He is talking about the whole community of believers, who, following the example of Jesus and of Paul, will come into the glory of God. So stand firm in the Lord (4:1). Copyright (c) J. S. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

By now, many may have failed in Lenten discipline to some measure or another: the daily doughnut is simply too alluring, or a furtive puff on a cigarette irresistible. There is meaning even in the failure, though, a kind of reminder that we cannot save ourselves. Part of the power of Lent is that we do it together, and although individuals decide on different ways to keep it, it is fundamentally the same journey. We fall, we get up, we keep moving. The desire to give something up for Lent is an age-old impulse in the Christian heart. We get better at it over the years, and move more deeply into the meaning and message of acts of sacrifice; so there is no shame in stumbling, as long as we are not discouraged by the failure and give up. We are clearing space in our lives, after all, and some of the things we desire to give up are worth rooting out completely anyway. What do we do with the space we have cleared out by our sacrifice? The Lenten question of giving up is balanced by the Easter question of our response to Christ s embrace of us in love: What are you taking on for Easter? —James Field, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch
