We celebrate and live the great gi! of the Holy

Spirit first given to the Church at Pentecost. It is within the

Church, a communion living in the faith of the apostles

which she transmits, where we know the Holy Spirit: “in

the Scriptures he inspired; in the Tradi,on, to which the

Church Fathers are always ,mely witnesses; in the

Church’s Magisterium, which he assists; in the sacramental

liturgy, through its words and symbols, in which the Holy

Spirit puts us into communion with Christ; in prayer,

wherein he intercedes for us; in the chrisms and ministries

by which the Church is built up; in the signs of apostolic

and missionary life; in the witness of saints whom he

manifests his holiness and con,nues the work of

salva,on.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church)

St. Irenaeus in the second century writes: “Bap,sm

gives us the grace of new birth in God the Father, through

the Son, in the Holy Spirit. For those who hear God’s Spirit

are led to the Word, that is to the Son, and the Son

presents them to the Father, and the Father confers

incorrup,bility on them. And it is impossible to see God’s

Son without the Spirit, and no one can approach the Father

without the Son, for the knowledge of the Father is the

Son, and the knowledge of God’s Son is obtained through

the Holy Spirit”. Every bap,zed person has received the

Holy Spirit. In bap,sm, the Holy Spirit in,mately and

personally communicates to us the life that originates in

the Father and is offered to us in the Son. This is true of all

the faithful, not simply for those deemed to be

“charisma,c”.

The presence of The Holy Spirit both brings about

and is manifested by the reality of the virtues of faith,

hope, and love (charity) in our lives. These three virtues

are “infused by God into the souls of the faithful to make

them capable of ac,ng as his children and of meri,ng

eternal life. They are the pledge of the presence and ac,on

of the Holy Spirit in the facul,es of the human

being….Faith is the theological virtue by which we believe

in God and believe all that he has said and revealed to us,

and that Holy Church proposes for our belief, because he is

truth itself….Hope is the theological virtue by which we

desire the kingdom of heaven and eternal life as our

happiness, placing our trust in Christ’s promises and relying

We are pleased to announce the “Kick-off" of a New Arlington Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (ADCCW) Program "CATHOLIC WOMEN IN THIS YEAR OF FAITH". Please join Liz Schiavone, President of the ADCCW and pro-life advocate Susan Muskett, on Saturday, June 15, for a presentation on the special calling of Catholic women today in promoting a culture of life in this year of faith. All are welcome to attend in the “Our Lady of Guadalupe” Room after the 9:00 a.m. Mass. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.

The Fan Care program is another way to help eligible senior adults in the Fairfax area. A person must be at least 60 years old and meet income eligibility requirements. The program begins on June 1 and runs through the end of September.
