PASTOR’S REFLECTION

Dear Friends,

Did you know that the single-most analyzed book of the Bible is not one of the Gospels? The book of the Bible that has been studied and analyzed more than any other throughout the centuries is the Old Testament book titled “Song of Songs.” It also goes by the name “Song of Solomon.” It is a poetic writing about two lovers, which can be applied to married love as well as to God’s love for each one of us.

One of the most famous passages is the following:

"Love is strong as Death… deep waters cannot quench love, nor rivers sweep it away. Were one to offer all the wealth of his house for love, he would be utterly despised." (8:6-7)

This week of Valentine’s Day we do well to reflect on this passage and give thanks to God for all the ways that He makes His love present in this world. He makes divine love present in this world not only through romantic love, but also through familial love, parental love, friendship love, and most of all in the Sacrament of Love (Holy Communion)!

St. Valentine, pray for us!

Your Pastor, Father O'Hare

Saturday Morning St. Joseph’s Covenant Keepers!

Find strength by joining with other men for spiritual reflection on Saturday mornings. We live in a time of crisis that must be met by men with a heartfelt embrace of masculine virtue. “Into the Breach” is the Apostolic Exhortation of the Most Rev. Bishop Olmsted, the bishop of the Diocese of Phoenix, AZ. This is a call for men to stand in the breach (Ezekiel 22:30) in this time of crisis and fight for their own souls and for the salvation of their families and loved ones. Join us at the Knight’s Hall (8592 Richmond Highway) Saturdays, 9:30-11:00am. Coffee, donuts, and drinks provided. Contact Leo McCormick, Grand Knight, with any questions: 202-213-1789.

What is the real story behind Valentine’s Day?At least three different Saint Valentines, all of them martyrs, are mentioned in the early martyrologies under date of 14 February. One is described as a priest at Rome, another as bishop of Interamna (modern Terni), and these two seem both to have suffered in the second half of the third century and to have been buried on the Flaminian Way. The popular customs associated with Saint Valentine's Day undoubtedly had their origin in a conventional belief generally received in England and France during the Middle Ages that on 14 February, i.e. halfway through the second month of the year, the birds began to pair. (Excerpt taken from catholic.org/encyclopedia).

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your MIND…’ (Luke 10:27)
