Special Thanks to the Community on the Adopt a Vet for the Holidays Campaign

The holidays were filled with joy and happiness for our Veterans thanks to this very kind and sharing com-munity donating to our "Adopt a Vet for the Holidays" fundraiser . Each one of our Heroes received a spe-cially designed hat made with their name and branch of service embroidered on to the hat. They also had money credited to their personal accounts to spend as they choose. Our Specialized Dementia Unit folks will have targeted activity programs and socials planned just for them. This annual Holiday Fundraiser impacts the holiday planning for our Veterans year round and because of all of the great businesses, organizations and individuals who chose to advocate for our Veterans we are already planning for Valentines, St. Patrick's Day, Easter and all of the holidays upcoming. This will be another year of "living life to the fullest" thanks to all the community support for this worthy fundraiser. There are no words to express our appreciation and heartfelt wishes for all of those who helped make yet another year for our Veterans memorable and joyous. It takes a nation of patriots working together to ensure our American Treasures know they are not forgotten yet fondly remembered for the sacrifices they have made to ensure our nations' freedom.

Bus Fundraiser Continues for 2013

We will continue to ask for the community support in our efforts to purchase easy access busses to transport our Veterans within the community. We have listened to many concerns from our organi-zations in the consideration of a larger bus and have decided on the purchase of smaller busses to allow for more accessibility to various areas we take our Heroes to on outings. Please continue to rally with us in this effort to provide updated and more efficient transportation for our Veterans.

by on October 23rd for their annual dinner and party, they passed out gifts and feed eve-ryone Lee’s Chicken. On Oc-tober 24th our friends from the MO Veterans Home-St. James cam and sponsored a bingo for us. They had lunch, took a tour, and played bingo. We wrapped October up with a

BBQ hosted by Sandy Wallace and her family, and a trip to the

St. Louis Mills. We started November off with a

bang with Principia Band, who as always put on a great show. On Novem-ber 10th we took part in the downtown Veterans Day Parade. On Novem-ber 11th we celebrated Veterans Day which is always a very special day in our house. We started

the day with a memorial service followed by big bucks bingo, an ice cream social, and a trip to the Florissant Veterans Day. We had many wonderful volunteers and visitors to help make this day as special as it could be. The St. Louis Rams came out for a visit on November 12th. They brought office staff, players, cheerleaders, and even Rampage. The Ameri-can Red Cross hosted this event. We wrote about 1200 holiday cards for the troops overseas. It was a great afternoon! Once again on November 15th we held our annual Family Thanksgiving Dinner. Veterans, family mem-bers, and volunteers all had a night to remember. The Rams hosted us at the game on Sunday November 18th for Military Ap-preciation Day. Even though the Rams had a loss, our Veterans left with smiles! The month of No-vember rounded out with lots of families, visitors, and guests en-joying Thanksgiving.

With the hot summer days behind us the Recreation Department was getting ready to be in full holiday swing. With the cool days of Oc-tober at our feet we took a trip to the Zoo on the 4th. We saw great weather, and beautiful animals. On the 21st we enjoyed a great BB@ and bingo with the Cooties. Enjoys won some money, and good food! October 22nd we took a trip to Eckert’s to pick our pumpkins. We also enjoyed lunch in the Eckert’s restaurant. The AES/Boeing group stopped

The month of December. The Recreation Department had 967 volunteers come through our doors during the month. From girl scouts, boy scouts, home

schools, churches, STL Singles Group, Jeff Clusters, and the

Christmas Caravan. We saw car-olers, dancers, candy canes, and gifts. A special thanks to the A.L.A. Dept. of Missouri hosting and sponsoring the annual " Holiday Shop" for our Veterans. The money and time spent to make this event a reality for our Veter-

ans is greatly appreciated and Ann Mohan has represented this group as their Liason for years. We are eternally grateful for this groups ongoing efforts. There are so many others who have annually committed to our Veterans and spreading the joy at

the holidays such as the Florissant Elks. The gifts and goodies they provide are so kind and the spe-cial made sweatshirts are some-thing all our Heroes look forward to. Special thanks to the folks in this group who made the effort to get those hard to find sizes so our

Veterans were all gifted a warm sweatshirt to wear. All who are here during the Elks holiday event boast the great entertain-ment provided by the Gateway City Big Band. The band mem-bers have always come through to provide and ensure our Veterans have music in their hearts to hold on to throughout the year. Rain, snow, sleet or hail they come from all over the city area to per-

form for our Heroes. This is true "holiday spirit!" We cannot name everyone and there are not enough words to ex-press our gratitude to this commu-nity and their deeds of kindness and goodwill they shared with us during this 2012 holiday season. On behalf of the Recreation Dept. we can only say two sincere words, THANK YOU for joining us in this great effort to ensure our Veterans had a memorable and joyous holiday.

Our Veterans Home was filled with lots of visitors coming in to ensure our Heroes had a joyous holiday season. I would like to express my appreciation for all of the community support during this special time of year. Our Vet-erans were elated to have the company and to attend the many special programs scheduled by our Recreation Dept. on behalf of this community effort. We are in full swing for our construction planning for 2013 and our main dining room area is one of our major projects. The plans will include some new flooring and an extension of the dining room. The structure will be built in a solarium design with a very open atmosphere for our He-roes to further enjoy their dining experience. We hope to have this finished within the first quarter of this year. We will continue working on our small projects to spruce up the Veterans home which will in-volve replacing flooring and re-vamping our direct care areas where our Heroes reside. We
