PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Dear Parents and Guardians,

Yesterday we celebrated the Assumption of Our Blessed Virgin Mary with a

Performing Arts Creative Dance - Year 3 and 5

This Thursday sees our Year 3 and 5 children participate in the Creative Dance section of the Catholic

Performing Arts Festival at the Convention Centre. It is a big ask to have children dancing on stage in such large

numbers in front of thousands of people, but an opportunity our 3's and 5's look forward to each year. We are

looking forward to seeing the full performance on Thursday evening. A special thanks to the parents who

assisted in preparing costumes and props for the children. Copies of notes regarding costume and makeup

requirements have been sent home. Please see Mrs Muir of you have any questions regarding Thursday.

State Cross Country/Year 5 & 6 Carnival Best of luck to our State Cross Country runners for this Friday. Nominations from the interschool cross country

carnival will be running against some of the best cross country runners in their respective year levels. Also, our

Year 5 & 6 children will be participating in a basketball and flagbelt rugby carnival on Friday. Let's all hope for

some sunshine and dry weather.

Year 2 Assembly - Coffee & Chat This Friday is our Year 2 Performance Assembly. As part of our endeavour to continue to

build the wonderful community spirit at St Luke's, we warmly welcome all the Year 2

parents (and any other parents in attendance) to stay for a coffee and chat after the

assembly. This is an initiative we will continue for each performance assembly for the

rest of the year. Look forward to seeing you there.

Power of Speech - Telethon Speech and Hearing This Saturday, five students from St Luke's will be participating in the Power of Speech Awards at the Telethon

Speech and Hearing Auditorium. This event is an opportunity for the children to showcase their talents as

confident and powerful public speakers as they deliver presentations on a subject of their choice. Jackson

Blackshaw, Lydia Smokrovic, Leon Dean, Charli Armstrong and Ethan Mackie have been preparing for weeks

and we wish them all the best for Saturday.

Administering of Medication Policy As part of our system audit by Catholic Education Western Australia, we have amended some of our procedures

regarding the Administering of Medication Policy. This is to ensure the continued safety of children and staff in

our school community. The updated policy is now available on the school website if parents would like further

clarification.

Tech Blog: 1:1 BYOD iPad Program 2018 (Year 4's) Over the past two years, we have been researching current educational practice around the use of 1:1 devices

within the classroom. After much deliberation, research and discussion, the current cohort of Year 3's (Year 4's

in 2018), will be our first group of students to transition into a 1:1 environment in 2018. A Parent Handbook,

including FAQ's and cover letter was sent home to parents on Friday. As technology continues to permeate our

everyday lives, we are excited at the learning opportunities a 1:1 environment will provide. Creativity and

collaboration will be two key focus areas with the iPads in 2018. All parent information in regards to the

program is available on our website should any parents be interested in viewing.

It's getting to the pointy end of the season in the footy, with more than a few contenders in with a chance for

finals spots. West Coast need a win away against the Giants, so it's a tough ask. For sports tragics like myself,

game one of the Bledisloe also happens this Saturday night, so I'm hoping for a competitive effort from the

Wallabies against the all-conquering All Blacks!

Have a great week everyone!

CONFIRMATION WORKSHOP

This coming Tuesday, 22nd August is the Parent and Child Confirmation workshop.

This is a compulsory workshop designed to prepare students, alongside their parents, to receive the gift of

the Holy Spirit. The workshop will be held in the St Luke’s Parish Hall. The workshop for 6W students

will commence at 5pm and the workshop for 6B students will commence at 6.30pm. Whilst it is only

necessary for one parent to accompany your child on the evening, both parents are more than welcome to

attend. We ask that siblings do not attend, so that you are able to provide your full attention to the

confirmation candidate.

Please discuss the importance and seriousness of this workshop with your child as they prepare to be fully

initiated into the Church. This is a special event that allows you and your child to spend quality time,

reflecting and discussing some important aspects related to their faith. We look forward to seeing you on

Tuesday.
