The Pastor’s Corner
You can tell it’s autumn in parish and school life. While
this is written prior to the event, the Blessing of Animals
connects us to the popular St. Francis of Assisi. His place of
honor and respect is evident with the garden statues in so
many yards. The Canticle of the Sun based on the words of
the saint is sung around the world. Take the time to enjoy a
walk in the crisp air, and even shuffle through the leaves.
Plant some spring bulbs: just enjoy the season!
Turning to today’s Scriptures, our first reading tells the
second story of the creation of the man and the woman. It is
highly anthropomorphic; attributing human traits to God. It
has the LORD making things out of the earth, breathing in
life, and presenting them to the man who names them. This
creative act presents the LORD as active and involved with
everything in creation. The LORD provides the man, at last,
with a suitable companion/partner, someone to provide
friendship, and who will participate in procreation. The
dignity of marriage is highlighted. It is a partnership of the
whole of life, ordered for the mutual good of the spouses.
Our sacramental appreciation of marriage integrally
includes, and cannot willfully exclude, permanence, fidelity,
and the openness to new life. Pray for all married couples to
recognize always the equal dignity of their spouse.
The 2018 Annual Financial Meeting will be held on
Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 5:30 PM. This meeting of the Trustees,
Finance Council, Financial Manager, Auditors, and
Accountant will approve the financial report for submission
to the Diocesan Vicar of Finance. The usual presentation to
the parishioners will be made as soon as possible. My
sincere thanks to the dedication of these parishioners who
help guide me in administering the temporal goods of the
parish.
With a grateful heart for each of you here at
St. Margaret’s.
~Monsignor Darcy
