TODAY'S READINGS / LECTURAS DE HOY. First Reading — If you share your food with the hungry, provide housing for the homeless, then light shall break forth upon you (Isaiah 58:7-10). Psalm — The just man is a light in the darkness to the upright (Psalm 112). Second Reading — My message to you, says Paul, was not clever words of wisdom but the proclamation of Christ crucified (1 Corinthians 2:1-5). Gospel — You are the salt of the earth, the light of the world. In your good deeds your light shines before oth-ers, leading them to glorify God (Matthew 5:13-16).

Hello everyone
P. Mike
I am of those many generations of Catholics taught to be quiet in church out of respect for the Blessed Sacrament, and because people wanted to pray. If it was absolutely necessary you could whisper something … but not laugh, or make unnecessary noise. That has changed somewhat. Besides being adoration chapel, the church building is also supposed to be a gathering place for people to become the body of Christ. Gathering into a common body means you greet each other, exchange news and jollity, learn to know each other a little. Trouble arises when you have the same space serving two functions --- which is why more and more churches have adoration chapels (where you are supposed to be quiet), and gathering spaces for Mass and the sacraments (where some visiting is completely appropriate). If we move forward with renovations here at St. Margaret Mary, we will almost certainly have a separate adoration space for the Blessed Sacrament (quiet, please!) … and
better gathering spaces inside the church and outside the doors for people to congregate and visit. In the meantime, all of us need to be very respectful inside our common worship space. If, before or after Mass, you want to visit with everybody but notice there are people trying to pray … please tone down your conversation or take it outside. It’s all part of different people living together and trying to become one body for Christ. Peace, All Good! Fr. Mike

Aging religious need your help. Senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests have offered their lives in service to others – educating the young, comforting the sick, seeking justice for the op-pressed. Today, many are frail, elderly, and in need of assistance. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Religious helps to furnish medications, nursing care, and other necessities. Please give generously to today’s second collection.
