WEEKLY MESSAGE FROM FR. LARRY
Dear Friends, Today’s Gospel leads us to think about our family’s financial contributions to our parish community, the Archdiocese, other Church-sponsored organizations, and other charitable organizations. Good stewardship invites us to share our treasure as well as our time and talent. Sometimes, however, decisions about a family’s charitable giving are made without our children’s knowledge. Yet we teach more when we invite all family members to be aware of how we contribute to our Church and to other charitable organizations and why. Make today a “teaching Sunday” so that your children learn that the $1 they give today changes in the future as they have the financial means to donate more and I’m not just talking about money. It’s very sad to see people give still giving $1 to the church because “they always have.” This week, when you gather as a family, talk about your family’s financial contributions to your parish and to other Church activities. If your family supports other charitable organizations, you might talk about these as well. Talk together about why it is important for us to share our resources with these organizations. Talk about what Jesus observes about the generosity of the poor widow. Talk also about ways in which your family might also make a sacrificial gift to support your parish or other charitable organization. (Perhaps your family might choose not to go out to dinner once a week but to contribute the money to the parish). Invite all family members to participate in the decision about what action you will take and which organization you will support with your contribution. Pray together asking God to help your family be generous like the poor widow in today’s Gospel. Have the faith that God

Queridos amigos, El Evangelio de hoy nos pone a pensar y analizar en nuestras contribuciones como familia para nuestra comunidad parroquial, la Arquidiócesis, u otras organizaciones patrocinadas por la Iglesia y otras organizaciones caritativas. El cumplir con la mayordomía, nos invita a compartir de nuestro tesoro, así como de nuestro tiempo y talento. Sin embargo, a veces, las decisiones sobre las donaciones caritativas de la familia se toman sin el conocimiento de nuestros hijos. Claramente, les enseñamos más cuando les invitamos a todos a tomar conscincia de cómo y el por qué contribuimos a nuestra Iglesia y a otras organizaciones caritativas. Convierta el día de hoy en un "domingo de enseñanza" para que sus hijos aprendan que el $1 que dan hoy cambiara en el futuro, ya que tienen los medios financieros para donar más, y no solo estoy hablando de dinero. We will create a “Book of the Dead” and your loved ones will be listed in this book. All will be remembered during the entire month of November at every Mass. “JESSE TREE” SIGN-UPS ON NOV. 11 & NOV. 18
We have joyously provided the Jesse Tree in past years; however, the majority of the gifts went to
families outside of our Parish Community. We want to focus on meeting the needs of our own
families and for this reason, we are making a change this year by handling the registration
process on Sundays when you come to Mass. We look forward to your registration and to the
support of the community in making this a wonderful Christmas for those families who can’t do it
on their own. So here is the information: We will be holding sign-ups for families who would
like their children (or for seniors) to receive gifts from our “Jesse Tree” on Sunday,
November 11th and Sunday, November 18th in the Parish Plaza from 9:00 am to 12:00
noon. To qualify for the Jesse Tree gifts, qualifying children should be infants through the age of
18 (if they are still enrolled in high school) and their families must be registered parishioners of
St. Mariana de Paredes Church. Families may request one clothing item and one toy for each
child. Seniors (age 60+) may also register for one gift for themselves. Please do not request gift
cards, cash, video games, computers and other electronic devices. Your gift requests will be
made available to our parishioners starting on Thanksgiving weekend. We will call you to pick up
your gifts the week of December 17th. Please make sure to follow the directions listed below.
Families must meet income requirements as follows:
Families with one to four persons must have a monthly income of $2,000.00 or less
Families with five or more persons must have a monthly income of $2,500.00 or less
You may register as a parishioner at the time you register for the Jesse Tree but you need to be
able to certify that you are already attending Mass here.
Applicants must bring the following items when they register:
Photo identification (California I.D., driver’s license, etc.);
Identification of all children in the household (birth certificate, or proof of guardianship, etc.);
Proof of income for all adults in the home (recent pay stub, general relief, social security, etc.)

En años pasado hemos proporcionado con mucho cariño el “Jesse Tree”; sin embargo, la
mayoría de los regalos fueron para familias que viven fuera de nuestra comunidad parroquial.
Queremos enfocarnos en satisfacer las necesidades de nuestras propias familias y por esta
razón, estamos realizando un cambio este año al manejar el proceso de inscripción los domingos
cuando usted asiste a misa. Esperamos que pase para registrarse para este programa, y para
permitir que su comunidad haga algo maravilloso en Navidad, para aquellas familias que no
pueden hacerlo por sí mismas. Así que aquí está la información: Vamos a estar registrando a
familias a quienes les gustaría que sus hijos (o personas de la tercera edad) reciban
regalos de nuestro "Jesse Tree", el domingo, 11 y 18 de noviembre en la Plaza Parroquial

If you qualify to receive this special gift, you are encouraged to come register that day. Other registration dates and locations are also available.
