RELAY FOR LIFE UPDATE

A big thank you to everyone for supporting Relay for Life and helping us to fight cancer. We have raised just under $1000 so far and will be kicking off our next phase of fundraisers in April. We have a Ladies Movie Night planned for April 12th, more info coming soon for this event, but in the meantime if you have a popcorn machine, please contact Cynthia Sunde. We will also have luminaries, track signs, and more available in April in honor/memory of those we love. If you want to make a donation in the meantime, or if you are a survivor and need to register, please go to the Relay site, www.relayforlife.org and under Home, put in our zip 29407 and team name St. Mark UMC and you should be able to locate our team. The team captain, Cynthia Sunde, is not listed for some reason so be sure you choose the correct St. Mark UMC for Charleston. Thank you again! Your Relay Committee **************************************

Susannah Wesley Circle is one of four circles that is quite proud to be a part of the United Methodist Women’s group at St. Mark. We are a group of ladies who work tirelessly for local, statewide and foreign missions. We support the Low Country Orphan Relief, Healing Farms Mission for children, Epworth Children’s Home, Wallace Family Life, and Killingsworth Home. We also donate food, clothing and paper products to Hursey School in North Charleston and provide hygiene kits for the women and children’s shelter at the Crisis Ministries in downtown Charleston. In December 2012, we sent $325 to Smile Train for surgery and medication for a child with a cleft palate. This is the third year we have done this and it is an awesome feeling to know we have helped one child at a time to have a better life. Our circle meets at 10:00 on the second Tuesday of every other month, starting in January. After the meeting we look forward to going out to lunch and socializing. We would enjoy having anyone who is interested visit our circle and socialize with us. Feel free to contact Eloise Wooden at 556-6945 if you have any questions. And please remember to join us for the delicious spaghetti dinner on March 10th.

YOUTH NEWS

REVOLUTION 2013

We had 12 kids and 4 adults go to Revolution

this year, and we had a blast! It was a long

and exciting weekend. I think the chaper-

ones had just as much fun as the kids. We

are looking forward to next year’s Revolution

and also to all of the exciting things we have

in the works for our youth.

On April 17th the youth will be stuffing

eggs for the Egg Hunt. Watch for other

opportunities to be involved in the life here

at SMUMC.

************************************** KINGDOM OF GOD MINISTRY

NEWS Greetings! Amy, Linda, Nancy and I want to thank everyone that has put their trust in us and allowed us to pray for you. It is a humbling experience when someone requests you to pray for them. It is something that we take very seriously and with great care. The example Abraham gave us when he bargained with God to save Sodom. It was the first example of intercessionary prayer. That prayer saved Abraham's nephew Lot and his family. It is a powerful weapon against the evil one. The KOG ministry is available to pray for you any time. We are glad to serve our Lord Jesus Christ in this way. Please know that you can request prayer as many

(KINGDOM OF GOD MINISTRY – CONT.) times as you like. Some problems need to be attacked numerous times before the enemy flees. We love you all, to God be the Glory! There are blue prayer requests cards in the pews with the attendance pads. Please fill one out and place it in the offering plate to request prayer. You can also go on St. Mark’s web page and send an email or simply use email below.

PRAYER VIGIL The Kingdom of God Ministry is hosting a 10 hour prayer vigil on March 2nd, 7am – 5pm. During this time someone will be in our Sanctuary praying for those who have requested prayer. We will also offer “live” prayer for anyone who would like someone to pray with them. This does not have to be scheduled, so please come by the sanctuary anytime that day. You may sign up in the Narthex to participate in the prayer vigil. There will be 30 minute time slots and we welcome any believer to join us in prayer. We won’t limit the number of people for any given time slot. Please sign up as you are able to attend.

God Bless you!! Susan Caulder

***************************************************** Just a Reminder!

Bible Study Fellowship is still open for new members. The Charleston Evening Women’s Class meets every Monday night at 6:55pm at Grace on the Ashley Church on Bees Ferry Rd. We are studying the book of Genesis this year. It is a four-fold approach to Bible study. 1) Lecture 2) Notes 3) Small group discussions 4) Study questions. I have done many Bible studies but this is the first one that not only do I feel like I'm learning something new every week, but truly feel my relationship with Christ has grown and matured. There is a student program for children 1st through 12th grade. There is also a day women’s class and evening men’s class. If you would like more information, please contact me anytime. Susan Caulder 819-8727 [email protected]

Nursery Update As you may (or may not) know, there are some changes being made in the St. Mark nursery. It is our vision and hope that we can revitalize the nursery into an updated and welcoming atmosphere where children are happy and playful, and where parents are assured and comfortable with the safety of leaving their little ones. And while these changes will involve some temporary shifts in responsibility, the lasting effects will benefit our sweet and precious children. For personal reasons, Connie decided to step down from the nursery as of December 30th, 2012. After much prayer and discussion, it was decided that Les and Tish would be relieved of their duties so we can move forward with our new vision. For the next few weeks or so, we will have volunteers in the nursery to care for our little ones. Please be assured that the safety and care of our children is of the utmost importance and ask that you voice any concerns to a SPRC committee member. We are looking forward to the changes the Lord has in store for us and ask that you pray for these changes and the positive affects they will bring. (See page 7) A suggestion box will soon be outside the nursery for any current parents to voice their praises or concerns or ideas for the upcoming changes we will be making to our nursery.

Yours in Christ, SPRC Committee
