The future is in God’s hands and God will bring it toful illment. What we do know is the outcome (Godcomes with redemption) and how it is achieved(through intimacy with Christ). Jubilee Year of Mercy FirstSundayofAdvent
Besides a new liturgical year, this Advent features anadditional “beginning”—next week’s opening of theJubilee Year of Mercy, a graced opportunity tocontemplatemore profoundly and live more concretelythe mystery of God’s unconditional love. Pope Francissays that mercy, as the bridge connecting God and thehuman family, opens our hearts to welcome God’s loveforussinnersandoureyestorecognizeothers, especiallysociety’sleastlovedandmostvulnerable, asbrothersandsistersentrustedtoourcare.Today’sscripturesprovideaperfect Jubilee preparation. Jeremiah comforts us withthepromiseofGod’sjustice;Paulchallengesustoaboundin love for all; Luke bids us anticipate Jesus’ futurecomingas the joyful adventof our redemption. But inaunique way, this Jubilee Year’s Advent reminds us thatJesus, whosecomingweawait, isalreadypresentamongus, inthoseforwhomweneedtobecomeinstrumentsofGod’smercy.—Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J.
