NNovember 24, 2019 ~ Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
Dear Parishioners:It is hard to believe
that Thanksgiving is here already this week. What
better time for me to say thank you to you for all you are and all you do for this beautiful parish.
Today marks the last Sunday of the Church’s Liturgical Year with this great Feast of Christ the King. Next Sunday, the First Sunday of Advent, we will begin a New Year of Grace in the same way we end the current one today – focusing on Jesus. The whole structure of the Church’s Year teaches us that Jesus Christ is the beginning, the end, and the very center of our lives, that He alone has dominion over our minds and hearts. If Jesus does not have dominion over my life, then someone or something else will.
To proclaim Christ as our King is to assert that while we are in the world we are not of the world, that we belong not to this world but to Christ. The values of Jesus Christ have always been at odds with the values of the world, and we see that today as much or more than ever. Are we listening to the voice of Jesus as He continues to speak to us through His Church, or are we listening to the myriad of other voices out there? There will never be true and lasting peace in our world until Christ the King reigns in every human heart -beginning with my own heart.
As we enjoy Thanksgiving Day on Thursday with our families and friends, let us give thanks first and foremost that we have such a King who exercises His dominion and power over our lives not with fear and oppression, but with humble, self-giving love and mercy. That is what we see in today’s Gospel as our King takes His throne in this world not in a palace, but on the Cross, laying down
his life out of an incredible out-pouring of love for you and for me. Perhaps on Thanksgiving Day we can take a few moments to say to Jesus: Thank you Jesus for loving me so much, and help me to love you more and more. Have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving.

You are invited to hear out school children proudly perform Christmas Music at St. Martin de Porres school! Grades 1-4 will perform the Nativity
Pageant on Thursday, December 5th at 7:00 pm in the school gym. Grades 6-8 will perform a brand-new modern Christmas musical called "CAKE, Christmas Acts of Kindness Experiment" on Monday, December 9th at 7:00 pm in the school gym. Pre-K 3 and 4 and Kindergarten concert is on Wednesday, December 18th at 1:00 pm in the school gym. The gym opens a half hour earlier than show
time for open seating. All shows are free.

Mariapolis Luminosa Nativity Display Each Christmas, throughout the month of December, Mariapolis Luminosa in Hyde Park displays over 200 Nativity scenes from 50 countries at the Chiara Lubich Conference Center. People come yearly and have said their visits have made their Christmas season more meaningful. Our very own SMDP Music Ministry led by Mrs. Jackie Hourani will perform a medley of Christmas songs on Saturday, December 7th at 2 pm. Come, listen and sing along to your favorite holiday tunes. A Baby Jesus Craft Workshop for children ages 4 and up will take place on Saturday, December 14th at 2:00 pm. Kindly RSVP by December 7 for the Baby Jesus Workshop. The display runs from December 7 – December 29 from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm. The suggested donation is $5 per person.
