THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH DECEMBER 31, 2017

From the Pastor:Dear Friends in Christ,

On the last Sunday of 2017, we celebrate the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. One week ago, we celebrated the Christmas mystery: Christ was born to save. Today we consider that He was born into a family. Put these two facts together, and you will see that the family was part of the divine plan of salvation. The obedience that the child Jesus showed to Mary and Joseph helped save the world. The care that Mary and Joseph showed for the little Child helped save the world, as the body they fed and washed and clothed would someday become the price of our redemption on the cross. We can prolong the celebration of Christmas throughout the New Year by imitating the members of the Holy Family. By our obedience to God and lawful authority, we are cooperating with God’s plan of salvation. By taking care of the Body of Christ, which is the Church, and by showing great reverence for the Eucharistic Body of Christ, we are cooperating with the plan of salvation. As the New Year begins, we pray for peace. We know all too well how fragile and elusive peace is in our world. As the world becomes smaller and more interconnected, we are all made more aware of the threats to peace in faraway lands, as well as in our own country and communities. If we are obedient to God’s plans and walking in His ways, we will have the inner peace that comes from being constantly aware of His presence and seeking His face. In all circumstances, give thanks.

In 2018, January 1, the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, falls on a Monday, so that Catholics are not required to attend Mass on that day. We will still celebrate Mass that day, but on a different schedule than usual. On January 1, there will be one Mass, at 9:00 a.m.

Sincerely Yours, in Christ,Fr. Thomas Buffer

Christmas FlowersFor the Living and Deceased Members of the

Trainor & Huntsman Families.

A big thank you from the St. Vincent de Paul Society to all who helped deliver the food baskets and especially to Jeff Baldauf who made this possible by managing the program and providing workers to set up the baskets. As in the past, many of our parishioners participated in distributing food to those in need. Several of you saw how some in our community live in very unpleasant conditions and saw a reason to give thanks for their own circumstances. Each family’s “basket” consisted of a ham, fresh milk, bread, bologna and two large boxes of staples. Hopefully this helps in bringing a little happiness to their holiday.

We thank all who gave monetary donations. Your generosity helps us not only at Christmas but throughout the year to assist the less fortunate in our community. We thank all our volunteers who graciously give of their time at the Clothing Center and Food Pantry. It is amazing how God always sees we have enough workers who say yes, when asked to help carry out his work. We could not continue our mission if not for everyone’s help and generosity.

Merry Christmas and a Blessed New YearThe St. Vincent de Paul Society
