MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin
Mary, that never was it known
that anyone who fled to thy
protection, implored thy help or
sought thy intercession was left
unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, we fly
unto thee O Virgin of virgins, our
Mother. To thee do we come. Before
thee we stand, sinful and
sorrowful. O Mother of the Word
Incarnate, despise not our
petitions, but in your mercy hear
and answer us. Amen.
ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that you are
present in the Most Holy
Sacrament. I love you above all
things and I desire to receive you in
my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment
receive you sacramentally, come at
least spiritually into my heart. I
embrace you as if you were already
there and unite myself wholly to
you. Never permit me to be
separated from you. Amen.

NOTES FROM PAUL
We have found ourselves in a scary time full of uncertainty. As I sat down to write this, it struck me how much
our world, and honestly our parish, has changed in such a short time. I pray that like the fathers and mothers of
our Church, those who were locked in a room at Pentecost, that we too will be "filled with the Holy Spirit" and go
out into the world to make it a better place. As some of us start coming back to the physical building we call "the
church," I hope none of us lose sight of the fact that the mystery and miracle of Pentecost happened in the streets
of Jerusalem. On this Solemnity, I pray the Holy Spirit finds you wherever you are and fills your heart with the
fire of His love.
God Bless you,
Paul Zbytowski
Pastoral Associate/Evangelization and Christian Service Coordinator

Queen’s Quotes from Religious Formation
Greetings and Salutations,
Veni, Sancte Spiritus – Come Holy Spirit!
Today, is Pentecost Sunday. A great day in our Catholic Faith. Pentecost means we cannot stand looking up to
the heavens, like the disciples. Pentecost means that it is time for us to engage in life and to shape the Kingdom of
God in word and deed. We all have been given gifts from the Holy Spirit; and together if we use all of our gifts we
can enrich and build up the Body of Christ here on earth. This is our action as Catholic Christians to defuse hate,
greed, envy, war and to replace it with love, empathy, compassion, and peace.
Let us not be afraid of the days ahead; rather Trust and Surrender to Jesus. Have a wonderful week everyone
and today’s laugh…
What starts with E, ends with E, and has only one letter in it?
An Envelope! LOL!!!!!!!
Blessings on your week,

PARISH NEWS
Reverend Joseph Plawecki has been appointed Administrator of SS. Simon and Jude Parish, Westland,
effective September 1, 2020. Father Plawecki is currently serving as Chaplain at Ascension St. John Macomb
Hospital, Warren. Fr. Joe has been residing at our parish and also assists with masses. Although Fr. Joe will not
be leaving us until September 1st, our parish would like to congratulate him and wish him many blessings on his
new assignment!

Also, it is with great sadness that St. Mary, Cause of Our Joy has found it necessary to eliminate three staff
positions because of the financial strain placed on our parish over the last few months. We did this with heavy
hearts but felt that it was essential for the financial stability of our parish. We ask that you keep these individuals
in your prayers.

PRAYER FOR AN END TO THE CORONAVIRUS CRISIS
Loving God, We come before you in our time of need. We lay before you our concerns and fears over the spread of
the coronavirus. We know that you are mightier than all our fears and that the name of Jesus is the name above
all other names. We ask, in the name of Jesus, that you stop the spread of the coronavirus. In your mercy, heal
those who are sick and lead those who have died into your heavenly kingdom. We ask this in the mighty name
of Jesus. Amen. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Stephen Pullis, Director Department of Evangelization and Missionary
Discipleship
Directives for Resumption of Public Masses
-Masses offered indoors will be limited in attendance. Only 200 parishioners will be allowed to enter St.
Mary, Cause of Our Joy for each mass. Once the limit is met, people will be asked to attend another mass.
-Cloth face coverings (masks) are to be worn by everyone approaching church and inside church (except for those
under 2 years old).
a.The priest celebrant and other ministers need not wear masks or gloves during the liturgy given they are more
than 6’ from the assembly during Mass.
-Seating for the assembly: Mindful of the imposed allowed limitations and the physical layout of the church,
parishes should clearly designate where seating is permitted (such as seating people in alternating pews with a 2-
pew separation or seating in different sections for different Masses).
a. Those living in the same household may sit together without distancing
b. For the distribution of Holy Communion, new patterns of approaching the altar might need to be configured to
better allow for proper distancing.
c. To the extent possible, those in line for Holy Communion should maintain a 6’ distance between each other and
those in the pews.
d. To the extent possible, the priest and ministers (deacon, lector, servers) should remain 6’ apart from each
other.
-Collection: Baskets should not be passed from person to person. Other collection points (e.g. boxes) suitable for the
faithful to drop in their offerings should be provided.
-Music: Music is certainly important to our liturgical celebrations as it attempts to lift the soul and express our
faith. Each parish needs to consider the following as we begin to return to Mass in limited numbers while
observing the required physical distancing
a. Because the faithful will be wearing masks, singing on the part of the assembly might prove challenging and
ineffective.
b. Health experts indicate that singing produces 6-10x more droplets from our mouths than recitation. Keeping
singing for the assembly to a
minimum is advised and the congregation should not remove their masks to sing.
c. If there is a “choir” present, it should be as small as possible with each member spaced about 10’ apart.
d. If worship aids are produced, they are to be used for only one Mass and then disposed of to avoid any possible
contamination.
e. The music minister singing the entrance and communion antiphon is a good option to incorporate music in our
liturgies.
-Distribution of the Precious Blood to the faithful is suspended at this time, nor should the lay faithful receive by
intinction.
-Holy Water and Baptismal fonts remain empty.
THE DISPENSATION FROM THE SUNDAY OBLIGATION TO ATTEND MASS IS
GRANTED TO ALL THE FAITHFUL THROUGH SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2020
Those older than 65 years old (the recommended CDC age), with a compromised health condition or
caring for the sick in any way, are encouraged to stay home. Anyone who is ill, has a temperature,
cough, etc., should definitely stay home as an act of justice to the whole community. Clergy with a
respiratory infection of any kind should avoid celebrating public Masses or administering the
sacraments . The same applies to other ministers, e.g., deacons, lectors, ushers, etc. Although the faithful
are dispensed from their Sunday obligation to attend Mass, they must observe the Lord’s Day and are encouraged
to spend time in prayer on Sunday, meditating on the Lord’s passion, death, and resurrection (an excellent way to
do this is through participating in a broadcast of the Sunday Mass) or participating in a spiritual or corporal act of
mercy.
