ST MARY MAGDALENE’S SCHOOL
Dear Parent/Carers,
Good news that the weather has picked up recently and we are
cautiously beginning to ease some Lockdown restrictions. We
have welcomed some more children of Critical workers back into
school. We continue to have only a few spaces left now. We look
forward to seeing the rest of the children hopefully back in
September. It has been lovely to see more children both in school
and through Microsoft Teams. We have ironed out some technical
difficulties and hopefully we will continue to develop this as a
learning tool not just now but also in the future.
We celebrate the feast day of St Peter and St Paul on June 29th. Peter was the leader of the apostles and the first pope. Paul was born Saul, but converted to Christianity on the road to Damascus. There are some resources from Salford Diocese that we will be using in school that can be used at home too. The links are in the RE section on the school website. https://www.dioceseofsalford.org.uk/resource-centre/education/primary-re/ Teachers are busy writing reports and planning for September as
well as teaching Bubbles and continuing with remote learning for
the children at home. Mrs Robinsworth is also very busy planning
for Transition days for Year 6. Thank you to the Year 6 parents
who have contributed to funds to help make Transition special.
I know that there have been lots of questions about summer
opening of schools. We have looked carefully at organising a
summer holiday club or some sort of provision. However, we
currently do not have the capacity or financial resources to do
this for the summer break. Mr Johnson and Mrs Barnes are
working on some information, challenges and signpost for
summer provision and they will be sending this out shortly. I
know Mr Johnson has already sent out some information
regarding outside agencies as some of these require early
bookings.
Regarding the Fast Club (Before and After School provision) we
are reviewing this and it may be that we can offer a reduced
provision in September. We are currently looking at the options
and the guidance and we will update parents as soon as possible
as I know it is an important element in helping parents return to
work.
Current advice is for people to only use public transport if they really must, including school transport. This could result in congestion on our roads with more people driving, especially at peak times. We know some parents won't have a choice however we want to encourage as many people as possible to walk or cycle to help manage social distancing and reduce traffic around our schools. I know lots of parents have been worried about children missing out on learning. But do remember the really positive things that children have learnt over the Lockdown. Some children have returned to school with more confidence and an improvement in their language skills, another pupil has learnt to ride a bike, another has developed his artistic skills magnificently. These Rainbow children have learnt resilience and a host of all other skills that you as parents have taught them so well done!

Schools Games Sports Day—Tuesday 30th June
On Wednesday I shared all the information about Sports Day which is due to take place on Tuesday 30th June. This is for EVERYBODY to attempt and have a go.
The aim to beat your personal best scores across 15 activities. The children in school will be doing their events between 10:30am-11:30am and 1:15pm-
2:15pm. Children in school can wear their own sporting clothing with trainers.
Lancashire are hoping to make this the biggest Sports Day in the country. I’d love to see lots of photos and videos of your child attempting the activities and you
can share these via dojo and our twitter feed @SMMRCBurnley or tweet @BurnleySSP and
@LancSchoolGames.

hard making BOB boxes.

parents and staff for making this happen!
Home Learning
Miss Round received a lovely video of a child in her Year 1 class who learnt to ride their bike without stabilizers. Many children have developed this skill during lock down.
Mr Johnson trying a new skill. Mrs Parkinson has told him...that bike’s too small for him!
