Joyful News
I often read various Christian blogs; some are meant particularly for pastors, some are more specifically related to the Bible, others are more general in nature and are written for all “varieties” of Christians. Recently I read one, and the following comment was posted:
There is a BIG difference between following Jesus of Nazareth and the political/nationalistic movement that is often called Christianity. Learn the Difference!
All too often, we get caught up in what we hear or see on the news, or in society. Unfortunately, people regularly use Christianity as a type of “excuse” for what they want to promote, or to preach, or the way that they want to live, and want you to live as well. I think we can all admit that there is a great rift in our society, particularly in the political sphere. Regrettably this carries over into our religion. It cuts to the depths of our faith, and we may not even realize it. When we are told that it is okay to “hate” someone, particularly if that person is different than I am in culture, race, religion, nationality, orientation or language, this is not at all what Jesus taught when He told us to “Love one another”. We are called to imitate and follow Jesus of Nazareth; not to imitate other people, even if we look up to them. Christianity is a monotheistic religion, but it is not monolithic. We believe in one, living and loving God, not in a religion that is an immovable rock. We are made up of different individuals; we are not forced into oppression. All are children of the loving God.
This also makes me reflect upon the difference between being “anti-abortion” and “Pro-life”. Being anti-abortion often means you are connected with the “political” movement against abortion. It does not, however, acknowledge that you respect all life, at all times of that life, from cradle to grave: the life of babies that don’t receive proper health care; the fears of teenagers going to school every day and wondering if they will be the next ones to see their classmates shot to death; the families striving to live a life free of violence and war; prisoners on death row who have no hope left in their lives; the elderly and infirmed who are many times looked upon as burdens. I have seen many of these cases with my own eyes; we cannot sit by and be uncaring. We must follow Jesus of Nazareth. Please, learn the difference.

IN FORMATION
LIVING ROSARY WEDNESDAY, MAY 23 at 7:00pm
Please join us for our Living Rosary. A Living Rosary is when people represent each bead of the rosary in memory of a loved
one. We need YOU to make up one of the 60 beads. 60 flowers from this celebration will be planted on our parish grounds to be enjoyed by all.
A light reception will follow.
Please call the office at 734-425-4421 to reserve a spot.
Mother’s Day Spiritual Bouquet Mass Cards Will be available THIS weekend (May 5/6) for a donation of $2 per name. Members from our Youth Group will be in our Gathering Space with the Spiritual Bouquet Mass cards. You may also purchase them from our Parish Office during regular business hours through Monday, May 7th. All names of Mothers, Living or Deceased, will be printed on a special insert in our Bulletin Mother’s Day weekend, May 13th.
BABY BOTTLE DRIVE
AAA Pregnancy Resource Center in Livonia has been helping families for over 40 years. They provide many free services, including pregnan-cy tests & ultrasounds. AAAPRC shares God’s truth with young moms and helps them to understand God’s plan for their life and their baby. Please stop on your way out of Church beginning MOTHER’S
DAY (May 13) , and pick up a baby bottle to take to your home or office. Then, do your best to fill the bottle up over the next few weeks
with spare change, bills or checks (made out to AAAPRC) and bring the bottle back on FATHER’S DAY (June 17)! Please bring the bottle back even if it’s just ½ full ~ every little bit helps. Empty ones should also be returned so that AAA PRC will not have to replace them. Get the kids involved – search the van, under the couch cushions, the bottom of Mom’s purse, the top of Dad’s dresser, raid the piggy bank! Have fun! It may not seem like much, but these coins add up, and they all make a difference for LIFE!!! If you have any questions or would like additional bottles, please call the office.

We would like to thank everyone who has been selling Raffle Tickets for the June Jamboree. If you are looking for something extra to do to help us with this event, we have two more chances. First, we would like to raffle off a “Wheelbarrow of Joy”; if you would like to donate a bottle of Premium Liq-uor it would help spread the “Joy” to the winner. Second, we would like to raffle off a basket filled with gift cards to local restaurants and businesses. Our hope is that each raffle will reach a value of approximately $500 (we will let everyone know when we hit our target), and all proceeds will go to as-sist with Capital Improvements at St Mary. Unused gift cards in sealed and marked envelopes can be dropped off in the collection basket, and bottles of alcohol can be dropped off in the Parish Office. Thank you!
