8 th January 2015 ‘UK – Brazil, Global Citizen’s’ Year 8 Conference Thursday 29th January 2015 Dear Parent/Carer As a part of the Year 8 Geography course, which includes a study of Brazil, we are holding a day of active participation lessons and presentations for the whole of Year 8 on Thursday 29 th January. The day will include visiting speakers and activities that help students to appreciate the links between our country and one of contrasting social and economic status in the world. All Year 8 students will take part in a special timetable for that day. Students are allowed to wear non-uniform in the colours of the Brazil flag (blue, green and yellow) but we expect sensible clothing. We ask for a donation of £4.00 towards the day (unless you choose the cooking option, in which case the total cost will be £7.00). Of this cost, at least £1.00 will go towards a charity that works in Brazil and the rest will contribute towards the visiting speakers and workshops. The agreed method of payment for school trips and activities is by credit or debit card. Please go to the school web site http://www.smrt.bristol.sch.uk and select the Parents and Carers Area. Click the link to the internet payment system (Tucasi) and log in to your on-line account. If there is a problem making payment in this manner it is possible to make payment by cheque or cash. If you are unable to make payment at all due to financial hardship, it may be possible for assistance from the Enabling Fund. To obtain an Enabling Fund Application Form and further information please contact Lynda Hynam on 0117 377 2120 or email [email protected] As one part of the activities, linking with the Food Technology Department, we are able to include a cooking session where students can cook a typical basic Brazilian meal, which consists of beans, rice and fruit. The spaces for this option are limited. If your son or daughter wishes to participate in this session please indicate this on the form below as students will be booked onto this session on a first come first serve basis. During break we will to hold a fair trade stall where students can buy Brazilian food items from the fair trade scheme. Please have your child return the slip below as soon as possible to Ms Bullock in the humanities support office in Temple Colston.
