The Ascension of the Lord in the Life of the Christian After the Lord Jesus appeared to his disciples he was elevated to heaven. This event marks the tran-sition between the glory of the risen Christ and that of Christ exalted to the right of the Father. It al-so marks the possibility of humanity entering the Kingdom of God as Jesus so often announced. In this way, the ascension of the Lord is integrated into the Mystery of the Incarnation, which is its con-clusive moment. Witnesses of Christ: The Ascension of Christ is also the starting point to begin to be witnesses and announcers of the exalted Christ who returned to the Father to sit on his right. The glorified Lord continues to be present in the world through his action in those who believe in his Word and let the Spirit act in them inwardly. The mandate of Jesus is clear and current: "Go to the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to all creation." For this reason, the new presence of the Risen One in his Church makes his followers the community of life and salvation. The strength of the Gospel: The Ascension of Christ into heaven is not the end of his presence among men, but the beginning of a new way of being in the world. His presence accompanies with signs the evangelizing mission of his disciples. The post-paschal community needed a time to rein-force their incipient faith in the Risen One. The Ascension is the end of its earthly visibility and the beginning of a new kind of presence among us. Mission of the Church: St. Luke, after writing his Gospel, also undertakes with divine inspiration the task of writing something of what happened after Jesus rose again and ascended into heaven. It is the history of the beginnings of the Church, those foundational times in which the Christian mes-sage begins to be proclaimed as a new and surprising doctrine that would transform the whole world. Thus he tells us that the Lord, before ascending to the throne of his glory and sending them the overwhelming force of the Spirit, appears again and again for forty days, to strengthen them in the faith and to light them in charity, to encourage them with the most live hope Take your Cross: With the Ascension, Jesus' command acquires a singular strength; the value of the Passion and Death is understood. From that new perspective, the Cross was the strength and wisdom of God. From that moment one could speak of forgiveness and conversion, without doubting the love and divine power of Jesus. It was possible to preach conversion, to exhort men to be recon-ciled with God, full of mercy. With the Ascension of Jesus Christ the path is open, and the parishion-ers invited to walk it by the hand of Him. Prayer: Grant us, Almighty God; to exult with joy and give you thanks in this liturgy of praise, be-cause the ascension of Jesus Christ, your Son, is already our victory, and where he has preceded us, who is our head, we hope to arrive also as members of her body. La Ascensión del Señor en la Vida del Cristiano Luego que el Señor Jesús se apareció a sus discípulos fue elevado al cielo. Este acontecimiento mar-ca la transición entre la gloria de Cristo resucitado y la de Cristo exaltado a la derecha del Padre. Marca también la posibilidad de que la humanidad entre al Reino de Dios como tantas veces lo anunció Jesús. De esta forma, la ascensión del Señor se integra en el Misterio de la Encarnación, que es su momento conclusivo. Testigos de Cristo: La Ascensión de Cristo es también el punto de partida para comenzar a ser testigos y anunciadores de Cristo exaltado que volvió al Padre para sentarse a su derecha. El Señor glorificado continúa presente en el mundo por medio de su acción en los que creen en su Palabra y dejan que el Espíritu actúe interiormente en ellos. El mandato de Jesús es claro y vigente: "Id al mundo entero y proclamad el Evangelio a toda la creación". Por ello, la nueva presencia del Resuci-tado en su Iglesia hace que sus seguidores constituyan la comunidad de vida y de salvación. La fuerza del Evangelio: La Ascensión de Cristo al cielo no es el fin de su presencia entre los hombres, sino el comienzo de una nueva forma de estar en el mundo. Su presencia acompaña con signos la misión evangelizadora de sus discípulos. La comunidad pospascual necesitó de un tiempo para reforzar su fe incipiente en el Resucitado. La Ascensión es el fin de su visibilidad terrena y el inicio de un nuevo tipo de presencia entre nosotros. Misión de la Iglesia: San Lucas, después de escribir su Evangelio, emprende también con la inspi-ración divina la tarea de redactar algo de lo que ocurrió después de que Jesús resucitara y subiera a los cielos. Es la historia de los comienzos de la Iglesia, esos tiempos fundacionales en los que el men-saje cristiano comienza a proclamarse como una doctrina nueva y sorprendente que habría de trans-formar al mundo entero. Así nos refiere que el Señor, antes de subir al trono de su gloria y enviarles la fuerza avasalladora del Espíritu, se les aparece una y otra vez durante cuarenta días, para fortale-cerlos en la fe y encenderlos en la caridad, para animarlos con la más viva esperanza. Toma tu Cruz: Con la Ascensión, el mandato de Jesús cobra una fuerza singular; se comprende el valor de la Pasión y la Muerte. Desde esa nueva perspectiva, la Cruz era la fuerza y la sabiduría de Dios. Desde ese momento se podía hablar de perdón y de conversión, sin dudar del amor y del poder divino de Jesús. Fue posible predicar la conversión, exhortar a los hombres para que se reconcilia-ran con Dios, lleno de misericordia. Con la Ascensión de Jesucristo el camino está abierto, y los feli-greses invitados a recorrerlo de la mano de Él.

Oración: Concédenos, Dios todopoderoso, exultar de gozo y darte gracias en esta liturgia de ala-banza, porque la ascensión de Jesucristo, tu Hijo, es ya nuestra victoria, y donde nos ha precedido él, que es nuestra cabeza, esperamos llegar también nosotros como miembros de su cuerpo. Por Je-sucristo nuestro Señor. Amén.
