We All Ache for God, and We Wait

The addict in the alley behind the church waits: for a God who will come and move all that enslaves him . The single mother waits: for the day when she no longer has to work 54 hours, when she can sleep 8, and when she’ll finally know the kids will be ok. The soldier in a ditch in Iraq waits: for a morning when there are no more explosions of IEDs, and every look is not feared as the precursor to an assault, and you don’t have to bury your best friend. The old man in the nursing home waits: for the day he will no longer be alone, when pain will no longer be his most constant companion, and when he can once again rest in the embrace of her whom he loved. The prisoner on death row waits: for a place where he will no longer be seen as evil, for a life that makes sense, for a time when love can be given and received, for the coming of a God who will love him. The investment banker waits: for the day when he’s not gripped by the fear that he’s about to lose everything, for the day when he can count his value in the quality of his love rather than the sign of his profit. The little child waits within her mother’s womb: for a world that will love her and a country which will protect her. The members of an immigrant family stand at the border and wait: holding in their hearts the hope of a better life. We all wait in joyful hope, with baited breath, as we gaze toward the eastern skies in expectation of the one who rises with healing in his wings. Exiled in a Babylon of our own selfishness, we cry out “Rend the heavens, O Lord, and come down to us!” Yet He waits for us in the confessional and as Eucharist, ready to embrace us, pick us up, put us on His shoulders, and carry us home to Himself.

Thursday Eucharistic Adoration - A Quiet Hour with Our Lord: Each Thursday after Mass, our parish offers us a great gift, Eucharistic Adoration. At this time, we need someone to commit to the 9:00 AM prayer hour. We also are in need of additional subs as some of the regu-lar adorers are gone during the winter months. What about you? Could the Holy Spirit be calling you to sit and visit with Our Lord during our day of adoration? Advent begins this weekend. What a wonderful opportunity to help you prepare for Christmas. • Due to the arrival of the flu and cold season, we are not shaking hands as a Sign of Peace during Mass. • Joy of the Journey will NOT meet this Sunday. Instead, there will be an Advent Retreat in the rectory after the 9:00 a.m. Mass. • Next Sunday, December 9, we will be having an Our Lady of Guadalupe Festival in St. Mary’s School after the 11:00 a.m. Mass. • Felicitamos a la “Pequeña Comunidad” de la Medalla Milagrosa, del PROINE, quienes celebran la memoria de su santa patrona. La Medalla Milagrosa. • El pasado viernes 30 de noviembre, se dio inicio a la Novena en Honor a la Morenita del Tepeyac. Sigamos partici-pando con alegría de esta preparación a la fiesta de todos los hispanos. • Felicitamos a las familias que han recibido a la “Virgen Peregrina” e sus casas para meditar el Santo Rosario. •Miércoles 5 de diciembre, formación para el grupo de Intercesión y servidores. A las 6:00 p.m. • Al finalizar la Eucaristía estaremos recibiendo las donaciones para la fiesta de la Virgen de Guadalupe.
