Dear Friends in Christ,

Praised be Jesus Christ! Our Scripture readings for this Sunday’s Mass

elaborate on mercy. You will remember the Extraordinary Jubilee of

Mercy (the “Year of Mercy”) that the Church celebrated in 2015–2016.

In the papal bull that proclaimed the holy year, Pope Francis wrote:

“We need constantly to contemplate the mystery of mercy. It is a

wellspring of joy, serenity, and peace. Our salvation depends on it.

Mercy: the word reveals the very mystery of the Most Holy Trinity.

Mercy: the ultimate and supreme act by which God comes to meet us.

Mercy: the fundamental law that dwells in the heart of every person

who looks sincerely into the eyes of his brothers and sisters on the path

of life. Mercy: the bridge that connects God and man, opening our

hearts to the hope of being loved forever despite our sinfulness.”

I had a professor in seminary who always said “Mercy, Lord, Mercy!”

after each prayer. He continually stressed to us the importance of

asking God for mercy in our lives. The Eastern Catholics (and

Orthodox) have a practice of saying Lord, have mercy or Kyrie, eleison

in their prayers, often twelve times in a row. My professor was right, of

course, that we can never ask God too many times for mercy. Pope

Francis was right, of course, when he said our salvation depends on it.

I encourage everyone to pray often Psalm 51, known in Latin as the

Miserere. It was our Responsorial Psalm today. Psalm 51 was the

psalm David prayed after he realized his own sin in committing

adultery with Bathsheba and his murder of Uriah the Hittite. I

encourage everyone to frequent the Sacrament of Confession as often

as necessary. Finally, take as an example the Eastern Catholic practice

of saying immediately upon waking each morning: “God, be merciful

to me, the sinner!”

In Christ,

Father Guanella

Our Mission is to provide an environment of learning, giving and loving to enhance the fellowship and

growth of the women’s faith community of St. Mary’s

Women On A Mission is a group for any woman who would like to meet and enjoy the company of other women, praying and doing. We have fun, we perform works of kindness, we support each other, we create, we educate, oh and we share goodies!!! We meet the first Monday of the month, October 7th at 6pm. Please come and check us out, and bring a friend. We'd love to have you join us! Any questions please contact Bernie Fritschlerat715-592-4654. See you in October!

One of our most successful projects is our Caring Bags. We put together Caring Bags and distribute them

to St. Vincent DePaul, the Hope Center and another local Homeless Charity Center. We will do this project

again, and deliver in November, prior to the real cold weather (we hope!). We are going to be making

specifically men and women bags (suggested by those who received them) so we have added to our list

hygiene products such as razors, shave cream or women feminine products.

You are probably asking—what in the “h” is a Caring Bag? It is a Helpful tool for those who may be

Homeless, Heartbroken, Helpless or in need of Hope. We will be filling canvas bags with the following

items and would love some assistance in collecting these:

Nice Warm Socks (may be gently used but not worn out)

New Shoe Laces (at least 54” – we use them as ties for the bags)

New Toothbrushes and New Small Toothpastes

Sample Size Shampoo and Conditioners (like what you get in hotels)

Sample Soaps (individually wrapped – like what you get in hotels)

New Wash cloths (can usually buy multiples at discount stores)

Hand Towels (may be gently used but not worn out – must be washed)

Pairs of Gloves or Mittens, and Hats

Personal Grooming products for men and/or women (razors, shave cream, women feminine products)

Bottles of Water

If you can Help with any of these items, please bring to church and place in the baskets marked Caring Bags.

Then, please come Help on Nov 4th in the basement of Church. Once assembled, they will be distributed to

shelters and facilities that Help those that need. We learn from each other and have a lot of fun in the

process. Come join us! P. S. If you like to sew, please consider making some of the bags. Simple directions

and all material supplied. Contact Bernie at 715-592-4654 God Bless you All for supporting this Mission!

RCIA: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the

process that is used to assist people on their journey into full

communion with the Catholic Church. Who is RCIA for? RCIA is

for those who have never been baptized, those who have been

baptized in a faith other than Catholic, and those adult Catholics

who desire to complete the Sacraments of Initiation (Confirmation

and/or Eucharist). Perhaps you have received all of the sacraments

but just want to learn more about the Catholic faith. You are most

welcome to attend as well! Registration will be necessary. If you

have further questions regarding RCIA please contact Fr. Guanella

and he will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
