The Four Weeks of Advent During the first two weeks of Advent we light the first

purple candles. The Third Sunday of Advent is called Gaudete (Rejoice) Sunday.

On this day we celebrate that our waiting for the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day is almost over.

Rose is a liturgical color that is used to signify Joy, so we light the single pink candle on the Third Sunday of Advent.

On the Fourth Sunday of Advent, the final purple candle is lit to mark the final week of prayer and penance as we wait for the soon

coming birth of the King of Kings.

Traditionally, each of the four Advent candles have a deeper meaning which is depicted in the Four Weeks of Advent Wreath:

The 1st Sunday of Advent symbolized Hope with the “Prophet’s Candle” reminding us that Jesus is coming. The 2nd Sunday of Advent symbolized Faith with the

“Bethlehem Candle” reminding us of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem.

The 3rd Sunday of Advent symbolizes Joy with the “Shepherd’s Candle” reminding us of the Joy the world

experienced at the coming birth of Jesus. The 4th Sunday of Advent symbolized Peace with the

“Angel’s Candle” reminding us of the message of the angels: “Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men.”

O’ ANTIPHONS:

Union of Catholic Apostolate (UAC) wish to

invite all members and parishioners to the

O’Antiphons (each antiphon refers to a name of

Christ as mentioned in the Bible) AFTER the

7pm Mass on Tuesday, December 5.

Following, please join us for coffee and

cookies in the parish centre.

Everyone welcome.

church for you or for anyone to pick up,

The Together We Serve

collection for 2017 in our parish

is now at 66% of our parish’s

target. Thank you to all who

have been so generous. Every

gift, no matter the size, helps us

together to serve those who need our help. This

Advent, choose to be generous in gratitude for

God’s goodness in your life. Grace this Week As part of his Every Life Matters initiative, Archbishop Smith asks us all

to heed the invitation of our Holy Father and embrace the custom of

praying at mealtime, and to add to the usual Grace before meals one line

from Scripture and one line of prayerful response to it.

Grace with lines inspired by the Readings for December 3 Leader: Lord Jesus, we thank you for your Word. You tell us that

your words "will not pass away.” (Mark 13:31)

All: Strengthened by your Word, may we live in hope.

Devotions in 140: A reflection based on the Archbishop’s selected

readings for the Feast of Christ the King:

“As members of the Kingdom of God, we are called to bring healing and

joy to a broken world.”
