WHAT’S HAPPENING IN OUR PARISH

Living in the Word ̶ Many different voices speak words to us daily. Consider the internet, television,

radio, books and magazines. We are putting those words into practice when we allow them to influence and shape our ways of thinking and living. Yet, there is only one

voice that we know is fully worthy of our trust. That is the voice of Jesus, who

is the only one who speaks the words of eternal life (cf. John 6:68).

(Archbishop Smith, Pastoral Letter, September 14, 2017)

Grace this Week Grace with lines inspired by the Readings for April 8, Second Sunday of Easter Leader: : Lord Jesus, we thank you for your Word. You offer us an abundance of peace. (Jn. 20: 19-21) All: Lord Jesus, may we as your followers share the peace you offer and may we begin with peace in our own homes and hearts.

Teaching from our Holy Father The Pope, as Bishop of Rome and successor of Peter, is the

visible and perpetual foundation of unity among the bishops

and among Christ's faithful. It is the Pope's role as Vicar of

Christ and Pastor of the entire Church to guide the community

of Christ's faithful, to safeguard them in the truth, and to

confirm his brothers and sisters in the faith.

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

In our continuing catechesis on the Mass, we now turn to its

culminating moment in the rite of Holy Communion. The

Lord’s gift of himself at the Last Supper is renewed at each

Mass in the offering of his body and blood under the signs of

bread and wine. After the breaking of the bread, the priest asks

us to acknowledge the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of

the world. His words invite us to acknowledge our sins, to trust

in the reconciling power of Christ’s sacrifice, and to receive the

medicine that unites us ever more closely to him. At the

moment of communion, we respond “Amen” to the words

“The body of Christ”. In this way, we signify our openness to

the transformative power of God’s grace, which enables us to

grow in the unity of Christ’s mystical body, which is the

Church. Nourished by the bread of life, we become a living

Eucharist; in a word, we become what we receive.

Our silent prayer after receiving communion is gathered up in

the final prayer of the Mass, which thanks God for making

us sharers in this holy banquet and asks that we may grow

daily in union with him, until we share at last in the

wedding feast of heaven.

Save the Date - March for Life

Are you prepared to stand up for the sanctity of human life

from conception to natural death? Join the Alberta March for

Life, which begins at 12 noon on Thursday, May 10, outside

the Alberta Legislature. The march is an annual peaceful

demonstration that coincides with pro-life events across the

country. You are also invited to pray with us before the march

at a Pro-Life Mass at 10am at St. Joseph Basilica. Participating

in the march is a powerful way to witness to the world that this

debate is not over, and the many, many people are willing to

stand up and be counted for their conviction. For all the details
