Grant them the blessings which flow from a selfless devotion to duty and grant them relentless wisdom in all the tasks they undertake. Where any suffer stress or anxiety, please bless them with your peace. Where any face family pressures, give them hope. Dear Students, Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 4 for the 2016 school year. It is hard to believe that

this school year is nearly over. Thank you to Mr Luke Barrett, the staff and

students for continuing to work so tirelessly while I was away. Although I

was blessed to see many wonderful and interesting places and be a part of

very different cultures, it is good to be home. We certainly are “a lucky

country”.

On Thursday of last week, I attended the National Police Remembrance Day

memorial service, this year held in St Mary’s Church Warwick. The service

was officiated by Fr Terry Hickling and Reverend John Case. I understand

Reverend Case to be a retired Police Chaplain. In his homily, Reverend Case

made mention to a phrase, “Standing in the gap.”

In memorial services such as the Remembrance Day for Police, prayers are

said for those who have died, for their families, for friends, for police still in

the line of duty. These prayers are said to be, “standing in the gap”; they are

the link between God and those for whom we are praying.

Reverend Case also made reference to the police as people “standing in the

gap”. More often than not, those given the job of protecting us are like the

mortar that hold bricks together.

We remember those who have given their lives ensuring the safety of others

and we remember and continue to pray for those still carrying on that

responsibility.

Dear God, we pray for every police officer and all support staff as they

maintain justice within our community. Grant them the blessings which flow

from a selfless devotion to duty and grant them relentless wisdom in all the

tasks they undertake. Where any suffer stress or anxiety, please bless them

with your peace. Where any face family pressures, give them hope. For all

members of the Police Service, whether they are enjoying the fullness of life

or walking through a lonely valley; may the awareness of your presence

guide each one to You. Amen

Spotlight on Staff – Miss Chloe Jones As a child, my family and I moved around a little bit due to my dad being a police officer. We started off in Brisbane and then

headed to Stanthorpe and Warwick before moving back to Brisbane so that I could start high school. During that time I actually attended St Mary’s myself for 4 years. So finding myself working here all these years later has been a very exciting journey!

Before I moved to Warwick I had completed my university degree in 2014 and received my first placement at St Joseph’s in Tara teaching a Year 4/5/6 class. I certainly learned a lot in this time and definitely wouldn’t be the teacher I am today if I hadn’t had this experience. I have learnt in this time that you can make such a huge difference to all children being a teacher and this is a wonderful feeling. Every day, and every student, is different and that is my favourite thing about my job.

Outside of teaching I love going to the gym, swimming, boxing and spending time with my amazing family.

ADMINISTRATION

The last school day for 2016 is Friday 2nd December. Reports and the final newsletter for this year will be issued on Thursday 1st December. Parents and caregivers are reminded that this term is only 9 weeks and will go very quickly. Assessment activities will be an important part of our school calendar in the coming weeks, along with assemblies, class Masses and Liturgies, intensive swimming programs, swimming carnivals and end of year activities. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to regularly read children’s diaries for updates regarding classroom and school activities as well as keeping up to date with upcoming events through the school newsletter.

School Fees for Term 4 will be posted out shortly. Families paying fees regularly through Direct Debits may need to make an extra payment (cash or cheque) in order for your accounts to be paid in full, by Friday 2nd December, 2016. If you are unsure of your amount still owing, please contact Mrs Maria Richards, at the School Office.

Year 1J

At the end of last term, Year 1 had a special visit from Queensland Fire and Rescue. They taught us all about fire safety and made sure that we knew what to do if there was an emergency. We saw what fire fighters wear when they go into a fire and how they make sure that they keep themselves safe.

Everyone’s favourite part of their visit was getting to use the fire hose and spray water across the oval. Even though they weren’t allowed to aim at Miss Jones or Miss Brosnan!

Sign in and out Registers

A reminder to parents that it is a legal requirement for our school to maintain a register of all visitors who enter the school during the day. If you visit the school for ANY reason, you are asked to sign the register available in both school offices. You are required to sign out before you leave the school grounds.

Parents bringing children to school late MUST sign the children in at either office on the register available. If a child is collected during the day, the register must be completed by firstly signing the child out; if the child is returned to school (perhaps after a dentist/doctor visit) parents/caregivers are required to sign the child in on the return.

Code of Conduct for School Students Travelling on Buses Parents and students are reminded that students travelling to and from school by bus are expected to conduct themselves in the same manner as they do whilst at school. We have included the link to the Code of Conduct for School Students Travelling on Buses provided by the Department of Transport and Main Roads: Code of Conduct for School Students

Pertussis (whooping cough) At the end of Term 3 there were reported cases of whooping cough in our school. A letter was sent home to all families regarding this. However, if you would like more information, Queensland Health has a Pertussis Fact sheet on its website at www.health.qld.gov.au.

Busking Competition

Erin Walsh (5O) and her 3 cousins competed in a Busking Competition up the main street of Millmerran

stage on Saturday 1st October in front of a very big crowd. It was a great experience all round with lots

of people congratulating them on their vocals and harmony.
