How can you care for someone this week? You might care for someone emotionally even if you cannot see them at this time.

EnglishLO: I can research Roman Baths

This week, you will be learning all about Roman Baths and writing your own non-

chronological report about them. Today’s task is to research them, so you have enough to write about over the next

few days. On the ‘resources’ document, you will see a list of helpful websites/clips to help you

with this. You can collect whatever information you want but if you’re a bit stuck there’s a list of questions you could try and answer. The more information you collect, the

better – record the facts you’ve collected in your books.

ReadingReading colours: red, yellow, blue,

green, orangeBook: Ice Crystal Robbery Oxford Owl

ReadingPredicting: Use the front cover and the

blurb to come up with your own predictions about what the story is about.

Write up 3 predictions into books.

Reading colours: turquoise, purple, gold, white, lime, copper, topaz, ruby,

emerald, sapphireLook at the document ‘reading

comprehension’ and read the headline at the top. Can you come up with three predictions for why the fire started?

MathsLO: I can accurately use

AM and PM

Today, you will be learning how to use AM and PM to describe the

time of day. You will also be using digital

clock too! You will use these digital clocks

along with AM and PM to help show the

difference between the morning and the

afternoon.

For Monday – Thursday’s work please see the

ScienceLO: I can explain the

functions of a skeletonHave a look at the video

below:https://

www.youtube.com/watch?v=2k6H2Vnn3o4

It will give you some reasons for why we have

a skeleton.In ‘broader curriculum

resources’, have a look for the worksheet. It will

go into more detail about the human skeleton’s

functions. (If you can’t print it off, don’t worry! You could always write up the tasks in

your books)

After, we would love for you to write a script and

record a short video explaining all about

bones. Try to include facts about: The different

types of skeletons

Some examples of the bones we

have The functions of

a skeletonWe’d love to see them!

Spiritual Reflection

For today and tomorrow’s

Spiritual Reflection, we

want you to think back to all of our school’s

Christian values and the stories we have looked

at and the messages we have thought

about during our Home Learning.

Your task is to create a piece of

art, a short poem or a short

message to others by

choosing either your favourite value or story.

You can send your work to Mr Murphy on the Year 6 email

address (year6@st-

marys.richmond.sch.uk).

EnglishLO: I can identify the features of a non-

chronological report.Today, you’ll be looking at the features of

a non-chronological report to help you write your own one.

We have included an example of a non-chronological report in a separate

document. If you’re able to print this, that’s great, if not it’s not a problem!

Go through the text and annotate (mark it) with the features that you can spot (See

Mr Egan’s example below). On the ‘resources’ document you’ll find a

checklist of things if you get stuck! You could use your coloured pens, pencils or highlighters to identify parts of your text which show each feature – just remember to label it. Or you can write the feature in your book and

the example of it underneath.

ReadingReading colours: red, yellow, blue,

green, orangeBook: Ice Crystal Robbery Oxford Owl

ReadingClarifying: Read for 15 mins – you may not finish your book in this time. That’s

fine, just carry on during tomorrow’s session from where you got to. When

reading, flag/write down any new/unfamiliar words to be clarified after

reading. (Write these in your books) Reading colours: turquoise, purple,

gold, white, lime, copper, topaz, ruby, emerald, sapphire

HistoryLO: I know why the Romans wanted to invade Britain and about their different attempts

As you know from last week, before the Roman invasion, many different

tribes lived in Britain during the iron age.

Meanwhile, the Roman Empire was expanding

across Europe and taking over many different

countries like France (they called it Gaul). Why do you think the Romans would have wanted to

invade Britain?

1. Sort out the cards on Sheet 1 (Broader

Curriculum) into pros and cons for invading Britain.

2. Now that you have done that, we will learn

about the different invasions. Yes; more than

1! Watch this video (

http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/z9j4kqt#zwmdjxs) and click on the three different invasion images below the video to find out about the

different attempts. Now fill in Sheet 2 in your books. Draw it if you done

have a printer.

EnglishLO: I can plan a non-chronological report.

Today’s lesson is you planning your non-chronological report about Roman Baths.

The last two days you have been gathering information about the baths and

identified a report’s features. Today, you will be using the planning

(using the planning the sheet’s in ‘resources’ document) your reports.

Remember today you are not writing your full report. Just include bullet points and

notes to help you with the writing. Mr Egan has provided an example below.

ReadingReading colours: red, yellow, blue,

green, orangeBook: Ice Crystal Robbery Oxford Owl

ReadingSummarising: Carry on reading the book. After 15 mins, use your text to summarise

5 key points. If a non-fiction text, try to summarise 5 pages worth and they are about – just the important information

remember! Reading colours: turquoise, purple,

MathsLO: I can find the duration

of an event

Today, you will be working on finding out what the how long an event lasts by looking

at the time it starts and when it ends.

The way you will be doing this is by using a number line to count on

in units of time you know such as hours, half hours, quarter

hours and five minutes.

PE

7-minute work outs: If it is a nice day you could do

these in your garden.

Use a stopwatch if you have one. Complete each

one for 30 seconds with a 30 second break after

each one. Try doing it with some music on that you

EnglishLO: I can write a non-chronological report.

You have worked hard this week researching facts, reminding yourselves

of the features of a report and you’ve planned your own reports and today, you are writing your non-chronological report

about Roman Baths.Use your planning sheet from yesterday and expand your ideas. You can refer

back to the fact sheets and websites but try not to copy them – aim to write

sentences in your own words. There is a guidance sheet below about what to

include plus Mr Egan’s attempt (WAGOLL).

See the table below that explains all about the

games on TTRS.

Our suggestions would be that you play a good 15

minutes on Garage mode, these will practise our

Year Group tables and will change each week!

We then think you should challenge some of your

classmates in Arena and if you’re feeling confident

have a go at some of the other games.

If you want to challenge your teachers too, then go

for it, but good luck!

EnglishLO: I can edit and assess my work

Remember, JK Rowling didn’t write Harry Potter in one go! So, editing your work is a very important skill, so don’t rush this

stage. Much like last Friday, today you will do it

in stages:1. Read through for sense: Check that

it all makes sense and flows nicely.2. Punctuation: Make sure your

punctuation is correct (this includes, capitals, full stops – make sure those

sentences aren’t too long, speech, question marks etc)

3. Spelling: Have you spelt everything correct? Use the wordmats and a

dictionary to help you! 4. Up-level: Are there any better words

you could use or any improvements? Replace any ‘said’ or ‘went’ verbs for

better ones for example. After you’ve done this, look at the success criteria (group 1 and group 2/3 versions) on the resources document. Tick your

column of the things you’ve included and get an adult to do the same when they’re

free.

Art/DTLO: I can produce Celtic Art

First, read the Celtic Art Information Sheet. Once you have done that, you

will know a lot more about Celtic art!

Today, I want you to create some in your books

or on some plain paper. They use lots of patterns

like you saw on the information sheet. Try and make one yourself! Here

are a few ideas:

EXTRA MATHS CHALLENGE:

Louise is thinking of a 4-digit number. The number lies between 4,000 and 5,000.

All the digits are different. The digit in the tens place is twice the digit in the thousands place.

Year 3 Home Learning Timetable - Week beg: 18.05.2020

Year 3 Non-negotiables: Capital letters and full stops Paragraphs for new ideas Commas for a list Apostrophes for contractions (wouldn’t, don’t, won’t, I’ll) and possession (Mr Egan’s pen, the earth’s surface) ONLY. Exception Words (see wordmats below) Cursive, joined handwriting Presentation to be top notch – this includes the use of a ruler for underlining and lines.

If you would like to continue learning activities beyond the morning timetable, please find below suggested activities for each afternoon set out by your teachers.

There are three suggested activities each day; it is for you to choose how many, if any, you would like to do.

Day Suggested Afternoon ActivitiesMonday Draw a map! Draw a map of your house or local area. Try to include interesting landmarks or objects. Perhaps, if you

do a map of your house you could make a treasure map with clues leading to the hidden treasure. Chapter two of Harry Potter is here! https://www.wizardingworld.com/chapters/reading-the-vanishing-glass and the

second quiz: https://www.wizardingworld.com/features/harry-potter-philosophers-stone-chapter-challenge-two-the-vanishing-glass (these house points will be added each time they release a new part so keep a record of how many you get).

Create a tally of how many minutes you spend reading each day. Once you have got this data for the week, make it into a bar chart.

Tuesday PATHS – we always like to think about positive relationships. Try to make a poster to show ways you can promote positive friendships and family relationships. Some ideas could be; help each other, do similar things together, hug, cheer each other up with a joke, speak kindly and compliment etc.

Learn something in a new language. Either use google translate or an app like Duplingo to learn a new language! Put all your learning about the Romans so far into a PowerPoint. Look back through your Home Learning book for

information. You could then show a family member over Zoom or FaceTime when it’s finished! Wednesday Be a nature spotter! In your garden or a local park have a look at the wildlife you can find. You can find some bird /

insect lists on the internet to compare with the ones you discovered. The Romans loved banquets! Choose from a selection of food below and make an imaginary menu. Tips - Food should

be cut into bitesize pieces so you can pick it up using your fingers. No cutlery needed at a Roman banquet! Lay your food out on a picnic blanket or tablecloth. Put cushions on the floor and lie on them. The Romans lay down to eat. Food included: cheese • bread • olives • chicken • lamb • fish • peas • salad • apples • pears • grapes • honey.

Thursday Rob Biddulph is going live in a bid to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘World's Biggest Art Lesson’ in support of the COVID-19 Global Impact & Innovation Fund. Rob's lesson will be live on YouTube at 4.00pm on 21st May, and in order to meet Guinness World Records’ criteria participants need to sign-up and stay online for the 30-minute duration. You just need to register beforehand at www.artworldrecords.com

Complete this daily lesson on vertebrates and invertebrates https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z4m6hbk Relax and complete some cosmic kids yoga https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga

Friday Using your knowledge of time have a look at the TV guide. You might find one in the newspaper, but if not you can see this one online here: https://www.tvguide.co.uk/. Answer some of these questions: What is the TV show with the longest and shortest durations you can see? How long do they usually last? What’s the difference between the longest and the shortest? What is the duration of your favourite TV show?

Design and make your own board game for all the family to enjoy – it could be all about time now you know about it. Make a bird feeder using cheerios https://www.messylittlemonster.com/2017/01/easy-cheerios-bird-feeders.html
