Tony Thank you to Fr. David Schatz who was available at the last moment and everyone else who helped carry the load when I was sick last weekend. I appreciate all of your help. Thank you also for all the birthday cards, well wishes, and gifts. I was not planning on spending my birthday this past Monday feeling sick but you made the day special. I appreciate the love and kindness that you have given me. As I was lying on the couch feeling miserable, I continued to think about renewing our parishes, families, communities, and including ourselves after reading the Gospel from last weekend (Matthew 13:1-23). The Gospel reading was about the parable of the sower. The first step of renewal and turning the soil of our soul from rocky to rich is through openness to God in prayer. Prayer is a personal communication between God and his people. This notion of communication between God and us seems obvious in which we talk and God listens and vice versa. But, this does not accurately sum up prayer. Prayer is more than a communication between us and God. Prayer is something deep, interior, personal, and special that leaves the heart hungry for something more. The more we dive deep into prayer, the more springs of living water will flow from us. Prayer nurtures and strengthens us and sets us on a strong foundation. Once we set our foundation firmly on prayer, the more we hear the voice of God and have a deeper desire to do his will. It is no longer about me but about thee. I pray that as we continue our renewal we will not just be in communication with God but grow into a deeper relationship with God which turns the soil of our soul from rocky to rich. It is the seed planted in rich soil that allows us to grow into a vibrant plant that touches the lives of others. It is through the richness of faith that will sustain us even through the most difficult times. That is the beauty and wonder of our God and we have no reason to fear. Also, please take advantage of Eucharist Exposition that each parish is setting up to pray for renewal. God bless you and have a great week! ~Fr. “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,

and I will give you rest” (Mt 11:28). Although our culture

does not always support it, scripture tells us that Sundays

are a day of rest. Take time to recreate and relax with

your beloved today.

Una nota del P. Tony

Gracias a Fr.

AMRT Retreat: Theme: "Our Lady of Fatima-100 Years Later" In 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared six times to three young children in Fatima, Portugal. She gave them a number of messages and urged them to pray for the conversion of sinners. During this retreat we will review the story of Fatima and what Mary showed the children and what she told them. We will also see how the message of Fatima is still very timely and relevant for us 100 years later. Retreat Director: Fr. Jerry Kopacek Fr. Kopacek grew up on a farm near Britt in north-central Iowa and graduated from Britt High School in 1973. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1977 with a B.A. in political science and history, and then graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in 1980. He worked for four years in Des Moines, mostly as a law clerk for the Iowa Court of Appeals. While working in Des Moines he began thinking more and more about the priesthood and began theological studies at St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore MD in 1984 and was ordained as a Catholic priest for the Archdiocese of Dubuque in May of 1988. Fr. Kopacek has served as an associate pastor in Dyersville, Mason City, Marion and Springville. He also served as principal of Newman High School in Mason City. He has served as pastor in three Catholic parishes in Winnebago County, in Marshalltown, Waterloo, Dyersville, Worthington. He currently is the spiritual director for St. Pius X Seminary, for the young men at Loras College in Dubuque who are in college-level discernment and formation for priesthood. This retreat begins at 8:00 p.m. Friday and concludes after lunch on Sunday. For further information or registration please contact American Martyrs Retreat House at [email protected] or #319-266-3543.
