“Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed
will you be because of their inability to repay you.” — Luke 14:13-14
We have a difficult time with the concept of giving without expecting something in return. Even when
we give to charity we often want something in return — a raffle ticket, a dinner, a chance to play
golf or our name in print. Yet, as Christian stewards, we need to remember that the true
reward for our giving awaits us in heaven.

Cross Catholic Outreach This weekend we welcome Fr. Augustine Temu who will speak at all the Masses on behalf of Cross Catholic Outreach which was founded to create a meaningful link between parishes in America and the priests and nuns working in the Church over-seas in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Central and South Ameri-ca. Please be generous in your response to Father’s appeal. Brochures will be provided if you wish to support this worthy
ministry. Fr. Augustine Temu Fr. Temu was ordained a priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tanga in Tanga/Tanzania, East Africa in 2007. He is working on his Mas-
ters of Arts in Pastoral Ministry at Duquesne University, Pitts-burgh, Pennsylvania. As an Outreach Priest he is able to see the difference Cross Catholic makes in serving the poor. His is inspired and motivated as a priest from the developing country of Tanzania and has worked in rural parishes where the majority are terribly poor. An inspiring and compassionate orator, Cross Catholic Out-reach is proud to have Fr. Augustine preach on behalf of those we serve — the poorest of the poor.

The bazaar is 14 days away! In the back of the church each family will find a Food Donation letter. In this letter we have marked items that we need for you to donate. We are asking for Pastry donations for the meal and for Pastry For Sale booth. Please try to bring eve-rything asked of you. We are counting on these donations! On Sept. 7th we need some strong arms to set up the booths only so we can make modifications to them the week prior to the bazaar. We will start at 8 a.m. and it shouldn’t take but a few hours. Also don’t forget that we will also be set-ting up on Sat., Sept. 14th and taking it all down on Mon., Sept. 16th, starting about 8 a.m. We are still in need of a chairman for the Pastry For Sale Booth. This is done inside the air condi-tioned Parish Hall during meal time. Please continue to buy items for Bingo, Parcel Post, and the Market. Items should be between $3 and $5 (for men, women, and children). Items are also needed for the Silent Auction and the live Auction. (Auction tags are available in the back of the church for you to pre-tag your items. This will help us tremendously on bazaar day when getting items ready for the auction). Homemaker’s Mart asks for canned goods, plants, and craft items. One of our more popular booths, Cake Spin, needs cakes. If you need anything for your booth, please let Patsy, Charlotte or Richard Mills know ASAP. Invite your friends, invite your family. Spread the word, put posters out wherever you go. I think we have a great bazaar and we need to let people know about it. You all do a great job of making the bazaar fun and a success so please keep it up. I think for a small parish, we can be proud of what we do. So let’s continue to carry on this tradition and remember…

St. Michael’s is proud to offer the following Bible Studies this fall.
Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom is a twenty-part Bible study that traces how the gospel witness
spread outward in waves from Jeru-salem and reveals how the seeds of Church structure and au-
thority took root. It shows how the joys and struggles of the early Christians in living the life of Christ apply to us today.
This Bible Study begins September 9th and is held in the St. Michael’s Step-down Room on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $40. Call Jayson Fuchs at (281) 755-7468 for information and to register contact the St. Michael’s Parish Office.
The Turning Point: 8 Encounters with Jesus that will Change Your
Life won’t just teach you how to understand the Bible better.
Through engaging videos, a thought-provoking workbook, and an edition of the Gospel of John that reads like your favorite chapter
book, this unique nine-week study will help you develop a meaningful relationship with Jesus.
This Bible Study begins September 11th in the St. Michael’s Meeting Room on Wednesdays from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Cost is $15. Call Melissa Doggett at (281) 844-7473 for more information and register by calling the St. Michael’s Parish Office.
1st Corinthians: The Church and the Christian Community
is a eleven-part Bible Study. We will learn about the early Chris-tians in Corinth and see how their struggles and challenges were
not so different from our own. We will see how St. Paul ad-dressed these struggles by introducing the Corinthians to God’s
greatest gift: the Eucharist. This Bible Study begins September 12th in the St. Michael’s Step-down Room on Thursday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. and on Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $30. Call for morn-ing class: Richard Kalisek at (979) 709-2035 and for evening class: Cathy Hanzik at (281) 342-8243. To register for this class call the St. Michael’s Parish Office.

As a parish, we are grateful to those parishioners who give of their time serving in a ministry during Mass. In recent months we have experienced a significant amount of liturgical minister no-shows. The ministry schedule is published in the bulletin the weekend prior to the first weekend of the next month. Be sure to notify the parish office at (979) 742-3383 of any known scheduling issues, such as vacations, business, etc. that would make you unavailable on a certain day or time period for the coming month, so the schedule may be prepared appropriately. Please report NO LATER than 15 minutes prior to the Mass start time. This will reduce the turmoil that arises in trying to find a replacement in such a very short notice. It is your responsibility to attempt to find a replacement when you are scheduled but cannot serve. A list of all the ministers and their phone numbers can be found in the Priest’s Sacristy. You can use this list to help find a replacement. If you are not assigned to help at Mass that day and would like to assist if needed, please check in before Mass begins. Appearance is important in the Church. We encourage you to always dress like you have come to do something important, that is, to worship God. That way if you need to fill in as a minister, you will be properly dressed. Thanks for doing what you are doing. It is a great service to the parish and all of the effort you make is deeply appreciated.
*If anyone is interested in volunteering for any of our ministries or have questions, please contact the Parish Office at (979) 742-3383.
