DESCRIPTION

Pope Leo XIII exhorts priests to say this prayer as often as possible, as a simple exorcism to curb the power of the devil and prevent him from doing harm. The faithful also may say it in their own name, for the same purpose, as any approved prayer. Its use is recommended whenever action of the devil is suspected, causing malice to men, violent temptations, and even storms and various calamities.

St. Michael The Archangel

The Hymn ¨Te Splendor¨

Prayer to St. Michael opeLeoxiii exhorts priests to say this prayer as often as possible,as a simple exorcism to curbthe power of the devil and prevent him from doing harm. The faithful also may say it in their own

name, for the same purpose, as any approved prayer. Its use is recommended whenever action of thedevil is suspected, causing malice to men, violent temptations, and even storms and various calamities.

n the name of the Father, and of the Son,and of the Holy Ghost. Amen

ost glorious Prince of the Heavenly Armies, Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in our______battle against ¨principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, againstthe spirits of wickedness in the high places¨ (Eph. 6,12). Come to the assistance of men whom God hascreated to His Likeness and whom He has redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil. HolyChurch venerates thee as her guardian and prtector; to thee the Lord has entrusted the souls of theredeemed to be led into heaven. Pray therefore the God of Peace to crush Satan beneath our feet, thathe may no longer retain men captive and do injury to the Church. Offer our prayers to the Most High,that without delay they may draw His mercy down upon us, take hold of ¨the dragon, the old serpent,which is the devil and Satan,¨ bind him and cast him into the bottomless pit ¨so that he may no longerseduce the nations¨ (Apoc. 20,2). Amen

Jesu, lifespring of the soulThe Father’s power, and glory bright!

Thee with the angels we extol;From Thee they draw their life and light.

hy thousand thousand hosts are spreadEmbattled o’ er the azure sky;

But Michael bears Thy standard dread,And lifts the mighty cries on high.

e in that sign the rebel powersDid with their dragon prince expel;

And hurl’d them from the heaven’s high towersDown like a thunderbolt to hell.

rant us with Michael still, O Lord,Against the Prince of Pride to fight,

So may a crown be our reward,Before the Lamb’s pure throne of light.

o God the Father glory be,And to his sole begotten Son;

The same, O Holy Ghost, to Thee,While everlasting ages run. Amen
