year they will be sending a bus for SMS students who have signed up

• High School Information Night: • October 5th at Jesuit (Hosted by St.

Rita)• Permission slips for Bishop Lynch &

Jesuit/Ursuline are available tonight if you have not turned them in.

• Students will not be allowed to go if we do not have a permission slip signed by the parent.

• Behavior and positive participation is expected

• All boys need to please be in slacks and ties. • Be open to each school!

The High School Evaluation Process• Achievement Test Scores for Grade 7

& 8– The student has the academic ability to be successful

in high school and achievement measures up to ability.

• Grades for 7th and 8th grade– The student has demonstrated a history of

appropriate motivation and effort. – Grades are consistent and compatible with ability.– Improvement has been made in areas of struggle

• Conduct & Behavioral Performance– Student has consistently demonstrated cooperation

with school rules and regulations. – Conduct and behavior grades on report cards

• Attendance Records – Student has demonstrated a history of consistent

attendance with very few absences and tardies.– Be ready to document any attendance gaps on the

record

• High Schools request addresses from St. Monica and then mail information to parents. If the application is not included, check the high school’s website. • Make a copy of the application and use as a

rough draft.• When completing hard copy information write

legibly and neatly with no cross outs. Use black or blue ink only.

• Recommendations:• Current Math & Language Arts’ Teachers• Personal or Character• Student Choice for Jesuit, Ursuline, & John

Paul II• Principal or Assistant Principal for Bishop

Lynch• ALL reviewed by Mr. Riley prior to sending to

high schools• Transcript Release

• Required for each school where you are applying.

• Release of records forms go to Mrs. Falagrady.• Transcripts are requested for all and then

distributed from one place.

Application

ISEE: Independent School Entrance Exam• Cost is $105.00

• Apply online at www.erblearn.org • Apply online to take the ISEE (preferably before

Thanksgiving)

• Take ISEE in January, must be before February 1st.

• Reports may be sent to six schools • The school code for St. Monica is 570275 – We would request that you send a copy to St.

Monica directly. • Students who have a diagnosed learning

difference– Testing with Accommodations Form must be

completed for time-and-a-half testing. – Evaluation must be no more than 2 ½ years

from the time of testing. Apply at least 5 weeks before test date.

ISEE: Format• For full consideration, stanines of 5 or higher

(40th-59th %) on the four components of the exam.• Students will receive a 5-minute warning before

the end of each test section.  • Verbal Reasoning - 40 problems in 20 min• Quantitative Reasoning: 37 problems in 35 min• Reading Comprehension: 36 problems in 35 min• Mathematic Achievement: 47 problems in 40

min• Essay: 30 min

• In the essay section, the students receive both a 15-minute warning and a 5-minute warning before time is called. 

• On the essay portion, the student’s ability to organize thoughts and then write in response to a prompt within a 30 minute time frame.

• Essay is sent to each high school for grading.

ISEE: The Day of the Test• Be sure of the date, time and place

– Arrive 15-30 minutes early to avoid last minute anxiety

• Remember to Bring– Your ticket – Required ID: See Important Dates Handout– Photo ID with signature from the

parent/accompanying adult. ID from test taker (child) with name only (photo and signature are not required.) Both an ID from the parent/accompanying adult and also the test-taker (child) are required

– Bring several # 2 pencils, an eraser and a pen– Do not take other items in the room including cell

phones or calculators.• Dress in comfortable layers• Clear your mind; pace yourself

Interview• Individual for Ursuline, Jesuit, and JPII• Personal or Family for Bishop Dunne and Bishop

Lynch • Evaluated based on:

– First impressions based upon general appearance and dress• Be on time• Dress appropriately: Sunday best

– Eye contact and handshake• Give a firm handshake.• Introduce yourself with your first and last name• Say thank you before leaving.

– Articulation – Body language

• Sit up straight, don’t cross legs• Try not to shake or tap nervously

– Responses to interview questions• Try to answer concisely and not ramble• Ask the interviewer to repeat the question if you

misunderstood it
