May — the Month of Mary The month of May is (…) a time when the People of God express with particular intensity their love and devotion for the Blessed Virgin Mary. (…) For this reason, I want to encourage everyone to rediscover the beauty of praying the Rosary at home in the month of May. (…) I am providing two prayers to Our Lady that you can recite at the end of the Rosary, and that I myself will pray in the month of May, in spiritual union with all of you.(…) Dear brothers and sisters, contemplating the face of Christ with the heart of Mary our Mother will make us even more united as a spiritual family and will help us overcome this time of trial. (…)

— Pope Francis O Mary, You shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the foot of the cross, were united with Jesus’ suffering, and persevered in your faith. “Protectress of the Roman people”, you know our needs, and we know that you will provide, so that, as at Cana in Galilee, joy and celebration may return after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus tells us. For he took upon himself our suffering, and burdened himself with our sorrows to bring us, through the cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen. We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God; Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from every danger, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.

Mass Intentions May 2 — May 10

World Day of Prayer for Vocations May 3, 2020

Please pray that young men and women hear and respond generously to the Lord's call to the priesthood, diaconate, religious life, societies of apostolic life or secular institutes. “Dear friends, on this day in particular, but also in the ordinary pastoral life of our communities, I ask the Church to continue to promote vocations. May she touch the hearts of the faithful and enable each of them to discover with gratitude God’s call in their lives, to find courage to say “yes” to God, to overcome all weariness through faith in Christ, and to make of their lives a song of praise for God, for their brothers and sisters, and for the whole world. May the Virgin Mary accompany us and intercede for us.” — Pope Francis, World Day of Prayer for Vocations,

Daily Rosary by Phone Continues through May Daily at 7:00 pm

Please participate with fellow Catholics in prayer for protection from and defeat of the COVID -19 pandemic. The Restorative Justice Ministry of the Archdiocese of San Francisco offers a Daily Rosary Rally and Community Prayer, in which we can join together through our phones. The prayer session at 7:00 pm each evening is planned to extend through the end of May. For a complete schedule, and instructions on how to join the community in prayer, visit the Rosary Rally page sfarchdiocese.org/rosary.

NEXT WEEK IS CATHOLIC CHARITIES SUNDAY.

This second collection is an invitation to parishioners to personally invest in the lives of thousands of marginalized and vulnerable residents in San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties. Your generous support keeps families together by preventing poverty and homelessness; enriches the lives of aging and disabled adults; welcomes and supports immigrants and unaccompanied minors, and nurtures the healthy development of children and youth. Please respond with a generous heart.

Who Are the Patron Saints of Mental Health? A new, specifically Catholic addition to the mental health resources on the archdiocesan website is this article: “Are You Feeling Depressed or Anxious? Five Patron Saints to Invoke.” There are patron saints for almost everything – but to what spiritual support can we look in this difficulty? As one sufferer puts it, “When mental illness crept into my life, I slowly stopped turning to the saints for help.” Read the article to learn that spiritual comfort does not have to drain away in depression. The Mental Health Ministry webpage can help with stress and anxiety during this unprecedented time of pandemic, with many resources both Catholic and secular. Visit the webpage, sfarch.org/mental-health.

Dear Friends, What a time in which we find ourselves. It looks as if we will be huddled in our homes for another month or more. With that said, please be assured of my continued prayerful support. It is uncertain times like this that we can depend on and feel the presence of the risen Lord through the gift of his Holy Spirit encouraging and sustaining us through it all. I do want to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have contributed on line and through the mail to the financial support of our parish. Your generosity, especially during these challenging times have made your kindness all the more meaningful. I also want to thank those who have responded generously to the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal. Participating in these acts of stewardship demonstrate to me your strong faith in Christ and his holy church. As we are all well aware, our church is not perfect; it is however the church started by Christ who promises to remain with it until the end of time. May the coming week fill you with Christ's peace and may all those who are sick or caring for the sick and the many who risk their health to provide for our livelihood be blessed in a special way at this time. Stay well and healthy and again, many thanks for all that you do. You are an inspiration to me! Monsignor Padazinski Pastor
