Thank you all so much for your many acts of kindness, your words of support and encouragement and your prayers. They were all gratefully received and appreciated. I have been given the all clear for cancer. I do have to have a regular check-up to ensure that the cancer isnt hiding elsewhere. But I am blessed to have had it taken care of so quickly and safely. As the summer heat approaches , so to does the intensity of the sun . The sun provides warmth and light for us, but it also can be harmful. NZ has one of the highest rates of skin cancer due to the thin ozone. A lot of the skin cancers that adults are getting now, were caused by the sunburn that they got when they were children. At St Patricks we are sun smart. That means that we insist upon children wearing our school hats at break times and when we are outside in the aſternoons. It is our current school policy as advertised on our website and in our prospectus. We appreciate that hats can be annoying on windy days. We appreciate that our heads can get hot and sweaty under the hat, when we are running around. But we have to insist on hats for all for our long term safety. Having had cancer and survived I am keen for our tamariki not to go through any cancer experience in the future. Tony Kelly-Smith Kia ora families, Welcome back to term 4, I am delighted that Tony is back with us on the team! I hope that you all had a fun filled holiday and got to spend extra time with your children. I believe that giving and spending time with your children and family is one of the most precious gifts that you can give. I was lucky to have some quality time with my own daughters (both now young adults) in the holidays, and it made me realise how quickly they grow up, but also how important the foundations are that we lay down for them. Kia ora koutou katoa,

It is good to be back. Thank you all so much for your many acts of kindness, your words of support and encouragement and your prayers. They were all gratefully received and appreciated. I have been given the all clear for cancer. I do have to have a regular check-up to ensure that the cancer isn’t hiding elsewhere. At St Patrick’s we are sun smart. That means that we insist upon children wearing our school hats at break times and when we are outside in the afternoons. Tony Kelly-Smith

Catholic Cultural Festival 30th October

Next Wednesday our Cultural Group will be representing our school at the catholic cultural group festival at Holy Cross. Sadly, due to lack of space parents aren’t invited. However, we will be performing on Tuesday at St Patrick’s School Hall at 2:30pm All are very welcome to come along and be proud. A huge thank you to Jessie, Helen Barber’s daughter who helped

our cultural group these last few weeks.

Without her, we wouldn’t be going. We would like to continue to

have one, but require someone with a Tongan heritage, and or

Samoan, and or Maori heritage to help keep our group

authentic.

You don’t have to commit to a regular practise.

We just need someone to help out occasionally to help put the

finer touches on our

performances.

Please see Tony if you can

spare some time...
