“Every particular task of the family is an expressive and concrete

actuation of that fundamental mission (love). We must therefore go

deeper into the unique riches of the family’s mission and probe its

contents, which are both manifold and unified. Thus, with love as its

point of departure and making constant reference to it, the recent

Synod emphasized four general tasks for the family:

    I. Forming a community of persons

    II. Serving life

III. Participating in the development of society

IV. Sharing in the life and mission of the Church

    St. John Paul II

    Familiaris Consortio

This week, I reflect on the first

task. I will then reflect on the

    remaining three in the following

    weeks.

    Within a family, everything relates

back to love. Saint John Paul

makes this explicit and even goes

as far as to say “Man cannot live

without love. He remains a being

    that is incomprehensible for him-

self, his life is senseless…” We

also see the importance of love

    echoed over and over throughout

    the gospels.

What does that love look like in

your life? Is it patience with a

crying infant? Is it visiting an el-

    derly family member more fre-

quently? Maybe it looks like for-

    giving the seemingly unforgivea-

    ble. However the opportunity to

love manifests itself in our family life, may we be bold enough to

take action yet docile enough to listen to the Holy Spirit. Most im-

portantly, may our families reflect a genuine community of persons

    founded on love alone.

Fr. O’Brien has added back the 1:30 p.m. Sunday Mass in the

    Extraordinary Form with Organ Music.

Please if you are looking for a smaller crowd at Mass,

    join us at 1:30 p.m.

This Mass will not be livestreamed.

This Mass will continue weekly until further notice.

First, a sincere debt of gratitude is due to our St. Jo-

seph’s Guild men’s club. This past Saturday they were

instrumental in storing the decorations from the Christ-

mas season. Just a reminder, the Guild meets every first

Saturday right after the 8am Mass. We start with coffee

and breakfast then have a little time for a spiritual con-

ference. Finally, the men help with the work that is

needed around our campus for about an hour or two.

Because of its good leadership, the Guild is primed for

growth! They are looking to expand their reach and take

on larger service projects to serve our parishioners and

our community. Please encourage all the men of our par-

ish to take part! Another sign of their generous service

now beautifies our courtyard. A beautiful cast iron cruci-

fix was donated to St. Patrick’s and was recently mount-

ed on the back wall of the rectory. Again, a sincere thank

you to our parish men who strive to imitate St. Joseph!

After months of planning and bidding, the church

waterproofing project has commenced. The work began

on the ‘parking-lot’ side of the church. They will scaffold

the wall to clean it, replace the detached plaster areas,

and re-seal the windows. Once that is complete, the

work will then move to the bell tower and then to the

courtyard side of the church. Since there are several vari-

ables to this project, we cannot estimate when it be com-

pleted. In the mean time, we look forward to a clean and

restored façade that protects our beautiful sanctuary

    from water intrusion damage.

This project is made possible by parishioner’s gener-

osity who donated to our Advent Appeal. Similarly, we

are close to signing a contract for air conditioning resto-

ration at St. John the Baptist Church. If its God’s will,

we should feel the effects of this improvement about the

time the hot weather returns! Sincerely, I thank the Lord

    for your continued generosity!
