BAPTISM OF THE LORD
This Sunday, the liturgical season of Christmas comes to a conclusion with the celebration of the Baptism of the Lord. The feast of the Baptism of the Lord is a celebration of Jesus as the anointed servant of God. This feast reveals who God is for us and who we are to be for others in Christ.
The Baptism of Jesus signified the end of the preparation for his active ministry. Its culmination took place when Jesus shed his sacrificial blood on the cross to redeem the world. Our baptism is also to be seen in the light of Jesus’ baptism. Through our baptism we partake in the death and resurrection of Christ. St. Paul asks: “Don’t you know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? (Rom. 6:3) Apart from the sonship and union we attain with Christ through baptism, we become members of the body of Christ. And accordingly, we are entrusted with a mission: to continue the work of Christ, namely, to go out of ourselves and live for others in love and service as Jesus did.
Jesus Christ conferred upon the water the power of the true Baptism which would remove all the sins of the world: "Behold the Lamb of God, behold Him Who takes away the sin of the world." Many of the incidents which accompanied Christ's baptism are symbolical of what happened at our Baptism. At Christ's baptism the Holy Spirit descended upon Him; at our Baptism the Trinity took its abode in our soul. At His baptism Christ was proclaimed the "Beloved Son" of the Father; at our Baptism we become the adopted sons of God. At Christ's baptism the heavens were opened; at our Baptism heaven was opened to us. At His baptism Jesus prayed; after our Baptism we must pray to avoid actual sin.
As we conscious of our Christian mission? Do we accept Christ as our saviour, Lord the son of God? What does he mean to us in concrete terms, here and now? Do we experience his nearness in the Word of God, in the Eucharist, in our community? What would our answer be to: “Who is Jesus Christ for you?” this question should make each one of us ponder and do a little heart-searching.
As many of us participated in Holy Mass being offered for all those who have been affected by the bushfires, we also held an hour of Adoration after the Mass this Wednesday morning and prayed for all those whose homes and livelihoods have been destroyed or damaged by bushfires. The devastation and enormous toll the fires took on families, properties, animals and communities are horrific.
This catastrophic condition has left the lives of so many in Australia physically, emotionally, spiritually and materially stretched and should not be forgotten. In the midst of such pain and suffering there are many stories of great inspiration where people given their all to help others, wildlife and animals. The courage and selflessness of so many should also be remembered. We pray that these people are able to rebuild their homes and lives with courage and determination, accompanied by many ‘good angels’.
Thank you, Jesus, for the wonderful firefighters and authorities who are working together to fight these terrible bushfires and we continue to pray for those fighting the fires. Let us also pray for rain to put out the fires and replenish the dry earth.
We are grateful to Fr. Gasper Peruvelil for his wonderful service to our parish. We thank him so much for all he has done in the Central Highlands.
Fr Gasper you remain in our prayers as you continue your ministry in Bundaberg. May God bless you in your new parish. Fr Raj

COME TO THE WATER Frank Andersen MSC
AOV 1:74
Chorus: Come to the water! You who are thirsty! Though you have nothing, I bid you come! And be filled with the goodness I have to offer! Come! Listen! Live! Why spend your money on what cannot fill the emptiness deep in your heart? Listen to My Word and you will enjoy goodness and peace in your heart! Just as the heavens are high above earth, My ways and thoughts beyond you. Call me your Father and know I am near. I will be Father to you! Just as the rain falls to water the earth, just as a seed becomes bread... My Word upon you can never return until My longing is filled. Copyright (c) 1978 Chevalier Bookshop. All rights reserved. THE NICENE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen

I HEARD THE VOICE OF JESUS Traditional English Melody. AOV Vol 1:54
I heard the voice of Jesus say, ‘Come unto me and rest; lay down, thou weary one, lay down thy head upon my breast’. I come to Jesus as I was, weary and worn and sad; I found in him a resting place, and he has made me glad. I heard the voice of Jesus say, ‘Behold, I freely give the living water; thirsty one, stoop down, and drink, and live’. I came to Jesus, and I drank of that life giving stream; my thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in him. I heard the voice of Jesus say, ‘I am this dark world’s light; look unto me, thy morn shall rise, and thy day be bright’. I looked to Jesus, and I found in him my star, my sun; And in that light of life I’ll walk till trav-’ling days are
done.
CELEBRATE Monica Brown AOV 1:44
Chorus: Celebrate what we have been given, celebrate what we have received. Celebrate the spirit of Jesus, alive in our hearts. No longer shall you be people who walk in darkness, it is the spirit who draws you into the light. Even the earth cries out. It longs to receive new life. It is the spirit who fills the world with new life. You who are gathered here share life and love together. It is the spirit who calls you out to give. Copyright (c) 1986 Emmaus Productions.
