mighty acts. Minister: All your works shall give thanks to You, O LORD, and all your saints shall bless

*PRAYER OF ADORATION

Minister O God, You have taught us to keep all your commandments by loving You and and People: our neighbor: Grant us the grace of your Holy Spirit, that we may be devoted

to You with our whole heart, and united to one another with pure affection; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen

*NEW TESTAMENT READING EPHESIANS 6:1-4

6 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 “that it may go well with you and that

you may live long in the land.” 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Minister: The Word of the Lord! People: Thanks be to God!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION The congregation is invited to kneel through the Pronouncement of Forgiveness.

Minister Almighty God and heavenly Father, our sins assail us with a list of accusations and People: that we cannot deny. The burden of our guilt and shame is too heavy for us to

carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. And so, we come to You for mercy in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Forgive us for the sins that our lips tremble to name. Set us free from a past that we cannot change. Open us to a future in which we can be changed. And grant us grace to grow more and more in the image and likeness of your crucified and risen Son. Amen.

Please take a moment to silently confess your sin.

PRONOUNCEMENT OF FORGIVENESS Minister: Can a woman forget her nursing child, or show no compassion for the child of

her womb? As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you, says the Lord. To all who repent and believe the gospel, I declare the forgiveness of sins in Jesus’ name.

Unison: Thanks be to God!

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Minister Sovereign Lord of heaven and earth, there is no God like You. You have taught and People: us to walk before You as pilgrims on earth and as citizens of heaven. You have

commanded us to offer supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in your sight because You desire all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Minister: In obedience to your command, we pray for every leader You have installed to protect and regulate society, both near and far, both great and small. We ask that You would bless the President of the United States, the legislative and judicial branches of this nation’s government, and the leaders of other nations for the sake of peace and justice. May those in positions of authority be blessed with wisdom and discernment. And may they only punish what is evil and only promote what is good.

People: Lord, hear our prayers. Minister: We pray for ourselves, that You would give us as your people the grace that we

need to be subject for your sake to every legitimate institution and authority structure that You have established in the family, the church, and the civil society because we know this is your will. Help us Lord, so that by doing good we might put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Give us grace to live humble and virtuous lives as people who are free, not using our freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.

Unison: May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

PASTORAL PRAYER

*PSALM OF CONSECRATION PSALM 127

From the Psalter; ST. ANNE

Except the LORD shall build the house the builders lose their pain; Except the LORD the city keep the watchmen watch in vain.

’Tis vain for you to early rise or late from rest to keep, To eat the bread of toil; for so He gives His loved ones sleep.

Lo, children are the LORD’S good gift, rich payment are men’s sons. The sons of youth as arrows are in hands of mighty ones.

Who has his quiver filled with these, O happy shall he be; When foes they greet within the gate they shall from shame be free.

GIVING TO GOD & VOCAL OFFERTORY “PSALM 8” We invite you to give generously as you are able. AMSTERDAM

LORD, our Lord, in all the earth how excellent Your name! You above the heav’ns have set the splendor of Your fame.

From the mouths of infants young You the pow’r of praise compose In the face of enemies to stop avenging foes.

When I view the skies above which Your own fingers made, When I see the moon and stars which You in order laid,

What is man so frail and weak that You should remember him? What can be the son of man that You should care for him?

Next to God You have made man, with light and honor crowned. You placed him above Your works; Beneath him all is found:

Oxen, sheep, and all wild beasts, Birds, and fish the oceans claim. LORD, our Lord, in all the earth how excellent Your name!
