Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 9:2-10.

S eis días después, Jesús tomó a Pedro, Santiago y Juan, y los

llevó a ellos solos a un monte elevado. Allí se transfiguró en pres-

encia de ellos.

Sus vestiduras se volvieron resplandecientes, tan blancas como

nadie en el mundo podría blanquearlas.

Y se les aparecieron Elías y Moisés, conversando con Jesús.

Pedro dijo a Jesús: "Maestro, ¡qué bien estamos aquí! Hagamos

tres carpas, una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías".

Pedro no sabía qué decir, porque estaban llenos de temor.

Entonces una nube los cubrió con su sombra, y salió de ella una

voz: "Este es mi Hijo muy querido, escúchenlo".

De pronto miraron a su alrededor y no vieron a nadie, sino a

Jesús solo con ellos. Mientras bajaban del monte, Jesús les prohibió contar lo que

habían visto, hasta que el Hijo del hombre resucitara de entre los

muertos.

Ellos cumplieron esta orden, pero se preguntaban qué significaría

"resucitar de entre los muertos".

J esus took Peter, James, and John and led them up a high

mountain apart by themselves. And he was transfigured before

them,

and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no fuller on earth

could bleach them.

Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses, and they were

conversing with Jesus.

Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, "Rabbi, it is good that we are

here! Let us make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and

one for Elijah."

He hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified.

Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them; then from the

cloud came a voice, "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him." Suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone but Jesus

alone with them.

As they were coming down from the mountain, he charged them

not to relate what they had seen to anyone, except when the Son

of Man had risen from the dead.

So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what rising

from the dead meant.

«El Cristo anunciado por la Ley y los profetas, único Salvador del género humano»

«Y Pedro respondió a Jesús: Rabbí, está bien que nos quedemos aquí.». Cuando leo las Escrituras y que

comprendo espiritualmente alguna enseñanza sublime, yo tampoco quiero bajar de allí, no quiero bajar a las real-idades más humildes: deseo hacer una tienda en mi corazón para Cristo, la Ley y los profetas. Pero Jesús que vi-no a salvar lo que estaba perdido, que no vino para salvar a los que son santos pero a los que se portan mal, sabe que, si se queda en la montaña, si no vuelve a descender sobre la tierra, el género humano no será salvado. «Al momento miraron en derredor y ya no vieron a nadie». Cuando leo el Evangelio y que veo testimonios de la Ley y de los profetas, es solamente a Cristo que considero: vi a Moisés, y a los profetas, pero sólo para comprender que hablaban de Cristo. Cuando al fin llego al esplendor de Cristo y que percibo de alguna manera la luz resplandeciente del sol brillante, no puedo ver la luz de una linterna. ¿Si se enciende una linterna en pleno día, puede ésta alumbrar? Si el sol brilla, la luz de una linterna es invisible: de este modo, si ante la presencia de Cristo, comparamos la Ley y los profetas, éstos son totalmente invisibles. No estoy criticando la Ley y los pro-fetas, antes bien, los venero porque anuncian a Cristo; pero leo la Ley y los profetas sin querer encerrarme en la Ley y los profetas, afín de conseguir, a través de la Ley y los profetas, a Cristo. A Él, con el Padre y el Espíritu Santo, gloria y majestad por los siglos de los siglos. Amén

“Christ, foretold by the Law and the prophets, only Savior of humankind”

“Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, Rabbi, it is good for us to be here.” When I read Scripture and spiritually understand some sublime teaching neither do I want to descend to humbler realities. I want to make a tent in my heart for Christ, the Law and the prophets. But Jesus, who came to save what was lost, who did not come to save those who are saints but those who are sick, knows that if he remains on the mountain, if he does not go back down to earth, humankind will not be saved. “Suddenly looking around, they no longer saw anyone.” When I read the gospel and see the testimonies of the Law and the prophets there, it is Christ alone that I consider: I haven’t seen Moses, I haven’t seen the prophets ex-cept to understand that they are speaking of Christ. When in the end I reach the splendor of Christ and perceive, as it were, the resplendent light of the sun’s radiance, I cannot see the light of a lamp. If one lights a lamp in full day-light, can it cast light? If the sun is shining then lamplight is invisible. In the same way, the Law and the prophets are completely invisible by comparison in the presence of Christ. I am not criticizing the Law and the prophets, rather I praise them because they announce Christ, but I read the Law and the prophets without wanting to enclose myself in the Law and the prophets but so as to come, by means of the Law and the prophets, to Christ. To Him, with the Father and Holy Spirit, all glory and honor to endless ages for ever and ever. Amen.

Ayuno y Abstinencia El ayuno consiste en hacer una sola comida al día. - La abstinencia consiste en no comer carne. - Son días de abstinencia y ayuno: Miércoles de Ceniza, Viernes Santo y todos los viernes de Cuaresma. - La abstinencia obliga a partir de los 14 años. - El ayuno de los 18 hasta los 59. - Con estos sacrificios, se trata de que todo nuestro ser (espíritu, alma y cuerpo) participe en un acto donde reconozcan la necesi-dad de hacer obras con las que reparemos el daño ocasionado con nuestros pecados y para el bien de la Iglesia.

FAST & ABSTINENCE

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is per-mitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that to-gether are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning absti-nence from meat are binding upon members of the Catholic Church from age 14 onwards.
