OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
We, the people of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Faith Community, Baptized into Jesus Christ, formed by Word and Sacrament, and Empowered by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Seek to be a visible sign of God’s love. We seek to build the Kingdom of God by: Using our unique gifts to minister to one another, Welcoming all and caring for those in need, Teaching our faith to others and Uniting in worship as a family with the Body of Christ.
DEAR EASTER PEOPLE OF GOD: On this second Sunday of Easter and also Divine Mercy Sunday, when many countries around the world are threatened by the Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) and people are living in constant fear and anxiety, the gospel today handed to us the divine consolation with this greeting of Jesus to his disciples:
“Peace be with you! The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. And he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit!”
When Jesus said, “Receive the Holy Spirit,” He is recreating our hearts to become the temple of the Holy Spirit, and assuring us that we are not forgotten. The Holy Spirit is the “breath” of love that will shield us from fear. The Holy Spirit is the “breath” of stillness that calms our troubled hearts. The Holy is the breath of serenity that erases our anxieties.
The Holy Spirit is the timely divine gift for us to have the strength to face the COVID-19 squarely. No retreat, no surrender – because God is on our side.
COVID-19 destroys life, but the “breath of new life” - the Holy Spirit, will move chaos of our lives into new creation. The Holy Spirit is the promise of hope and better tomorrow. He is the “faithful-presence” of God in our daily lives.
Remember, “we come from a glorious Creator. We come from the loving heart of God.” A love that never dies; a love that remembers us forever; a love that promises: “I will be with you until the end of time!”
Dear Holy Easter people of the Risen Christ, let us make this EASTER SEASON a sea-son of new beginnings, a season of new life. Let this paraphrased prayer of the prophet Isaiah be a constant song in our hearts and daily prayer in our lips during this challenging times:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.
When you are infected with COVID-19, I will be with you; when you walk through the pains of this pandemic,
you shall not fear, my overflowing love will heal you… Because you are precious in my sight,
and I love you.” (Isaiah 43:1-2,4)
EASTER BLESSINGS!

2nd Sunday of Easter
“Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”
— John 20:29b
Saint anselm (1033 - 1109) - April 21
For anyone disheartened at how easily contem-porary discussions of disputed church-state is-sues escalate from civil discourse to shrill po-lemic, Anselm provides perspective. Grounded in the Benedictine Rule’s balanced “prayer and work,” this monk-scholar, called from his abbey to become Archbishop of Canterbury, was thrust into firestorms of political intrigue, himself the target of warring bishops and nobles, kings and popes. Yet from depths of inner peace, An-selm wrote this moving exhortation by which today’s Liturgy of the Hours celebrates him: “Rise up, insignificant man! From your preoccu-pations, flee a while. From your turbulent thoughts, hide for a time. Your crushing respon-sibilities cast aside. Your burdensome business lay down. Free a little space for God. Rest a lit-tle while in him!” “Faith seeking understanding” was his strikingly contemporary motto; and though renowned as an erudite philosopher-theologian, Anselm also left personal letters, profound for their insights on Christian friend-ship. Along with those, he composed “A Prayer for My Friends” and “A Prayer for My Enemies,” reminding us that those who love God most passionately are also those who love others most humanly.

T he Second Sunday after Easter is designated Divine
Mercy Sunday.
It’s a recent feast in the Church, instituted in 2000 by Pope St. John Paul II. He felt that imme-diately after Easter, while the Paschal mysteries were fresh in our hearts, we needed an op-portunity to reflect more deeply on God’s great mercy manifest-ed in the Resurrection.
So how does this feast fit with the Gospel reading of Jesus’s appearance in the Upper Room? When the reading be-gins, the disciples are hiding in fear for their lives, certain that the officials would be coming to get them just as they came for Jesus.
Compounding their fear is the recognition that they had aban-doned Jesus in his hour of greatest need. They are scared, disgraced, and guilty. At that very moment, who should enter into their sorrow and shame but Jesus himself. Jesus comes, despite the locked doors, to stand in their midst, offering them both peace and mercy. In addition, he tells them that through the power of the Holy
Spirit, they, too, will have the ability to extend mercy by for-giving sins.
Today, through our priests who have been ordained in apostolic succession, we, too, can re-ceive mercy and forgiveness. All we need to do is repent and trust in the mercy of God. In-deed, today’s feast invites us to trust that no matter what wrong we may have done, Jesus loves us and wants us to experience his mercy. That’s why one sim-ple prayer associated with Di-vine Mercy devotion sums up the confidence we should have in Christ’s mercy: “Jesus, I trust in you.”

members can watch the short “Opening the Word “ VIDEO free at sptacc.formed.org Reflect on these following ques-tions with a friend or family:
In the video, the presenter, Jules Miles, explains how and why Pope St. John Paul II designed this Sunday as Di-vine Mercy Sunday...
• What did she say about this feast?
• What does Jesus say when he comes into the midst of the Apostles in the locked room? What is the significant of these words?
P RAYER: Imagine you are in the closed room with the
other disciples hiding in fear early on that first Easter Sun-day. The door is bolted but sud-denly Jesus is standing right before you and says, “Peace be with you.” How do you envision the other Apostles responding to Christ’s appearance? How might you respond?
R ESOLUTION: If we are to have the peace Jesus
wants for us, we must learn to trust in his mercy and good-ness. Consider one area in your life where you lack peace. How can you increase your peace by increasing your trust? As you contemplate this, pray, “Jesus, I trust in you.”

PEACE & MERCY
