LITURGY AND WORSHIP ~ LITURGIA Y CULTO Joyce Lubofsky

[email protected] 281.333.3891 Ext. 333

Lent 2018 The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence. Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence. Fasting is obligatory for all who have completed their 18th year and have not yet reached their 60th year. Fasting allows a person to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one full meal. Abstinence (from meat) is obligatory for all who have reached their 14th year. Lent is a penitential season and as such religious practice such as daily Mass, reception of the Sacrament of Penance, the devotion of the Stations of the Cross, works of charity and justice, and acts of self-denial are highly encouraged.

Stations of the Cross are prayed Friday nights at 7 PM in English and 8 PM in Spanish.

RCIA Rituals at the 9 AM Mass: this weekend, we celebrate the Penitential Rite for our elected Candidates, which is their final preparation for their First Penance. On the Third, Fourth and Fifth Sundays of Lent, we will celebrate the Scrutinies with our elected catechumens, as they deal with the reality of the sins they have committed (which will be washed away in the waters of Baptism at the Easter Vigil). Please plan to attend these Masses to support our brothers and sisters in their journey.

Lenten Penance Services with Confessions: Please note the dates of the Lenten Penance Services in our Deanery; all take place at 7 PM:

Tues. 2/27: St. Mary, La Porte; Wed. 2/28: St Luke the Evangelist, Sagemont;

Thurs. 3/1: St. Bernadette, Clear Lake; Tues. 3/6: Mary Queen, Friendswood;

Wed. 3/7: St. Paul the Apostle, Nassau Bay; Thurs. 3/8: St. Clare, Clear Lake;

Tues. 3/13: St. Mary, League City; Thurs. 3/15: St. Helen, Pearland.

There will NOT be Confessions at St. Paul on any THURSDAY night of a Penance Service.

THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK The Anointing of the Sick will be celebrated Saturday, March 3rd, after the 8:30 AM Mass. To receive the sacrament, you must register by March 1st; walk-ins will not be accepted. To register, please call the Welcome Center to leave your name and contact information; you will receive a call to verify your eligibility for the sacrament.

Ministry and Continuing Education for Adults Because Our Faith is too Rich to have ever Learned it All…

Contact Heidi Clark, Director of Adult Ministry, 281.333.3891, Ext. 328 or [email protected] for more information.

Adult faith formation at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church is centered around the understanding that living

“The Way” taught by Jesus Christ is a life-long, evolving journey, involving both effort and decision. To enable adults to explore the

faith and deepen their knowledge of God’s Word, we provide many opportunities to come together in a learning environment. As a

diverse community with a small parish feel, we know it is important to walk that journey with others and to share what we have

learned along the way.

Volume XVIII No. 1926 Second Sunday Of Lent February 25, 2018

Society of St. Vincent ~ 281.333.2509 Office Hours: Tuesday-Wednesday, 9:30-11:30 AM

Tuesday, Thursday: 6:00-8:00 PM

In today’s Gospel, Jesus overcomes the temptations to wealth, power and esteem. As we begin Lent, may we open our hearts to the grace of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

Your almsgiving to the St. Vincent de Paul will help the poor to celebrate the grace of God’s love this Easter.

For additional almsgiving opportunities this Lent, please keep the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in mind. Items always in need and appreciated are protein (canned tuna, chicken, etc.), canned soup and pasta meals, rice, canned meals (stews), and toiletries. Please place these items in the labeled baskets in the narthex.

Upcoming Society of St. Vincent de Paul Meetings @ St. Paul, 7:00 PM.

Wednesday, February 28, 2018

NOTE: Saint Vincent de Paul is now open on Tuesday evenings, 6 – 8 PM.
