Kyrie – LSB p. 204

Hymn of Praise Gloria in Excelsis – p. 204

1 To God on high be glory

And peace to all the earth;

Goodwill from God in heaven

Proclaimed at Jesus' birth!

We praise and bless You, Father;

Your holy name we sing—

Our thanks for Your great glory,

Lord God, our heav'nly King.

2 To You, O sole-begotten,

The Father's Son, we pray;

O Lamb of God, our Savior,

You take our sins away.

Have mercy on us, Jesus;

Receive our heartfelt cry,

Where You in pow'r are seated

At God's right hand on high—

3 For You alone are holy,

You only are the Lord.

Forever and forever,

Be worshiped and adored;

You with the Holy Spirit

Alone are Lord Most High,

In God the Father's glory.

"Amen!" our glad reply.

Salutation and Collect of the Day

P The Lord be with you. C

And also with you.

P Let us pray. Almighty and most merciful God, preserve us from all harm and

danger that we, being ready in both body and soul, may cheerfully accomplish

what You want done; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and

reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C Amen. Sit Old Testament Reading Job 38:4–18 Job accused the LORD of being unfair, and the LORD responds firmly that not only has He created all things, but He continues to

care for them.

P This is the Word of the Lord.

C Thanks be to God.

Epistle Romans 10:5–17 The message of salvation in Christ goes out to all by the preachers God sends to proclaim His Word that we might hear and believe.

P This is the Word of the Lord.

C Thanks be to God.

Stand Alleluia and Verse

Holy Gospel Matthew 14:22–33 Jesus walks on the sea to His frightened storm-swept disciples who finally know Him by His speaking to them and saving them.

P The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the 14th chapter.

C Glory to You, O Lord.

After the reading:

P This is the Gospel of the Lord.

C Praise to You, O Christ.

Nicene Creed C I believe in one God,

the Father Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth

and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the only-begotten Son of God,

begotten of His Father before all worlds,

God of God, Light of Light,

very God of very God,

begotten, not made,

being of one substance with the Father,

by whom all things were made;

who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven

and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary

and was made man;

and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.

He suffered and was buried.

And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures

and ascended into heaven

and sits at the right hand of the Father.

And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead,

whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the Lord and giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified,

who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church,

I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins,

and I look for the resurrection of the dead

and the life T of the world to come. Amen.

P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord,

almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who on this day overcame death and the grave

and by His glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore with angels and archangels and

with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

Sanctus

C Holy, holy, holy Lord God of Sabaoth adored;

Heav'n and earth with full acclaim shout the glory of Your name.

Sing hosanna in the highest, sing hosanna to the Lord;

Truly blest is He who comes in the name of the Lord.

Prayer of Thanksgiving P Blessed are You, O Lord our God, king of all creation, for You have had mercy on us

and given Your only-begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish

but have eternal life.

In Your righteous judgment You condemned the sin of Adam and Eve, who ate the

forbidden fruit, and You justly barred them and all their children from the tree of life.

Yet, in Your great mercy, You promised salvation by a second Adam, Your Son,

Jesus Christ, our Lord, and made His cross a life-giving tree for all who trust in Him.

We give You thanks for the redemption You have prepared for us through Jesus

Christ. Grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may faithfully eat and drink of the fruits of

His cross and receive the blessings of forgiveness, life, and salvation that come to us

in His body and blood.

Hear us as we pray in His name and as He has taught us:

Lord’s Prayer

C Our Father who art in heaven,

hallowed be Thy name,

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done on earth

as it is in heaven;

give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses

as we forgive those

who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom

and the power and the glory

forever and ever. Amen.

The Words of Our Lord P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it

and gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance

of Me.”

In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying:

“Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of

sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

Pax Domini

P The peace of the Lord be with you always.

C Amen.

Prayer before Communing

Dear Savior, at Your gracious invitation I come to Your table to eat and drink Your holy body and blood. Let me find favor in Your eyes to receive this holy Sacrament in faith for the salvation of my soul and to the glory of Your holy name; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Hymn 626 Come, Let Us Eat

Hymn 728 How Firm a Foundation

1 How firm a foundation, O saints of the Lord,

Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!

What more can He say than to you He has said

Who unto the Savior for refuge have fled?

2 “Fear not! I am with you, O be not dismayed,

For I am your God and will still give you aid;

I’ll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand,

Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.

3 “The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose

I will not, I will not, desert to his foes;

That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,

I’ll never, no never, no never, forsake!

4 “When through fiery trials your pathway will lie,

My grace, all-sufficient, will be your supply.

The flames will not hurt you; I only design

Your dross to consume and your gold to refine.

5 “Throughout all their lifetime My people will prove

My sov’reign, eternal, unchangeable love;

And then, when gray hairs will their temples adorn,

Like lambs they will still in My bosom be borne.”

Hymn 754 Entrust Your Days and Burdens

5 O blessèd heir of heaven,

You’ll hear the song resound

Of endless jubilation

When you with life are crowned.

In your right hand your maker

Will place the victor’s palm,

And you will thank Him gladly

With heaven’s joyful psalm.

6 Our hands and feet, Lord, strengthen;

With joy our spirits bless

Until we see the ending

Of all our life’s distress.

And so throughout our lifetime

Keep us within Your care

And at our end then bring us

To heav’n to praise You there. Stand

In dismissing the communicants, the following is said:

P The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen and preserve you in body and soul to life everlasting.

Depart T in peace. C Amen.

Nunc Dimittis– LSB p. 211 O Lord, now let Your servant

Depart in heav'nly peace,

For I have seen the glory

Of Your redeeming grace:

A light to lead the Gentiles

Unto Your holy hill,

The glory of Your people,

Your chosen Israel.

All glory to the Father,

All glory to the Son,

All glory to the Spirit,

Forever Three in One;

For as in the beginning,

Is now, shall ever be,

God's triune name resounding

Through all eternity.

Prayer after Communing

Almighty and everlasting God, I thank and praise You for feeding me the life-giving body and blood of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Send Your Holy Spirit that, having with my mouth received the holy Sacra-ment, I may by faith obtain and eternally enjoy Your divine grace, the forgiveness of sins, unity with Christ, and life eternal; through Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen.

Small Catechism

What is Baptism?

Baptism is not just plain water, but it is the water

included in God's command and combined with God's

word.

Which is that word of God?

Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Matthew:

"Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the

Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19).

Large Catechism

It is of the greatest importance that we esteem Baptism

excellent, glorious, and exalted, for which we contend and

fight chiefly, because the world is now so full of sects

clamoring that Baptism is an external thing, and that external

things are of no benefit. But let it be ever so much an external

thing, here stand God's Word and command which institute,

establish, and confirm Baptism. But what God institutes and

commands cannot be a vain, but must be a most precious

thing, though in appearance it were of less value than a straw.

We ought to esteem Baptism very highly because God has

commanded it, and, besides, it is performed in His name. For

these are the words, Go ye, baptize; however, not in your

name, but in the name of God.
