RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS The Religious Education Program is open from 9:30AM to 2:00PM, Monday thru Thursday and Monday thru Wednesday nights 6:00PM – 8:30PM. Please call 429-8824 for more information. All sacramental information is past due. There was an important Confirmation meeting for the candidate, parent and sponsor this past Tuesday, March 8th in English. If you did not attend this meeting, you need to meet with Mrs. Cobb on a Tuesday from6:30PM or after class on a Monday. The next meeting is on Tuesday, March 22nd in Spanish at 7PM in the school gym. The fourth, fifth, and sixth graders that have class on Tuesday nights will have a retreat on Tuesday, March 15th from 6:30PM to 8PM in the school gym. The office will be closed and there will be no class during Easter recess from March 23rd to March 29th. Classes resume on Wednesday, March 30th. Please continue praying for our students. MISSIONS This year St. Peter and St. Mary Church will have two parish missions: one for our parishioners who speak Spanish and one for our parishioners who speak English. Our mission in Spanish takes place from this Sunday, March 13th, through Friday, March 18th. Fr. German Ramirez from the Diocese of Barahona, Dominican Republic, will conduct this mission. Our mission in English will be conducted by Fr. James Villa, OFM Cap., a Capuchin Franciscan priest who gives parish missions as part of his ministry. The mission runs from April 30th through May 4th.

SACRAMENT OF PENANCE We will have more opportunities to receive this gift of God’s love: on Saturday, March 19th, from 3PM to 5PM; on Monday, March 21st, from 3PM to 9PM. March 21st the Sacrament of Penance will be celebrated in every church of the Archdiocese of New York. It is difficult to imagine a time when it would be easier to receive God’s forgiveness in this sacrament. On Wednesday, March 23rd at St. Peter and St. Mary Church from 7PM to 9PM this sacrament will be celebrated. Plan now when you would like to meet the Lord in this sacrament of healing love.

POPE FRANCIS: PALM SUNDAY How does Jesus enter Jerusalem? The crowds acclaim him as King. And he does not deny it, he does not tell them to be silent (cf. Lk 19:39-40). But what kind of a King is Jesus? Let us take a look at him: he is riding on a donkey, he is not accompanied by a court, he is not surrounded by an army as a symbol of power…He enters to receive a crown of thorns, a staff, a purple robe: his kingship becomes an object of derision. He enters to climb Calvary, carrying his burden of wood: the Cross. Jesus enters Jerusalem in order to die on the Cross. And it is precisely here that his kingship shines forth in godly fashion: his royal throne is the wood of the Cross…That is the throne of Jesus. Jesus takes it upon himself… Why the Cross? Because Jesus takes upon himself the evil, the filth, the sin of the world, including the sin of all of us, and he cleanses it, he cleanses it with his blood, with the mercy and the love of God. Let us look around: how many wounds are inflicted upon humanity by evil! Wars, violence, economic conflicts that hit the weakest, greed for money that you can’t take with you and have to leave. Love of power, corruption, divisions, crimes against human life and against creation! And – as each one of us knows and is aware - our personal sins: our failures in love and respect towards God, towards our neighbor and towards the whole of creation. Jesus on the Cross feels the whole weight of the evil, and with the force of God’s love he conquers it, he defeats it with his resurrection. This is the good that Jesus does for us on the throne of the Cross. Christ’s Cross embraced with love never leads to sadness, but to joy, to the joy of having been saved and of doing a little of what he did on the day of his death.

SACRAMENTO DE LA RECONCILIACIÓN Tendremos más oportunidades de recibir este don del amor de Dios: el sábado, 19º de marzo de 3PM a 5PM; el lunes, 21º de marzo, de 3pm a 9PM. El 21º de marzo, el sacramento de la Penitencia se celebrará en todas las iglesias de la Arquidiócesis de Nueva York. Es difícil imaginar un momento en que sería más fácil de recibir perdón de Dios en el sacramento. El miércoles, 23º de marzo en Iglesia de San Pedro de 7pm a 9PM se celebra este sacramento. Planifica ahora cuando quiere encontrar con el Señor en este sacramento de amor y de curación.

PAPA FRANCISCO: DOMINGO DE RAMOS ¿Cómo entra Jesús en Jerusalén? La multitud lo aclama como rey. Y él no se opone, no la hace callar (cf. Lc 19,39-40). Pero, ¿qué tipo de rey es Jesús? Mirémoslo: montado en un pollino, no tiene una corte que lo sigue, no está rodeado por un ejército, símbolo de fuerza… Entra para recibir una corona de espinas, una caña, un manto de púrpura: su realeza será objeto de burla; entra para subir al Calvario cargando un madero: la cruz. Jesús entra en Jerusalén para morir en la cruz. Y es precisamente aquí donde resplandece su ser rey según Dios: su trono regio es el madero de la cruz…Ese es el trono de Jesús. Jesús toma sobre sí... ¿Por qué la cruz? Porque Jesús toma sobre sí el mal, la suciedad, el pecado del mundo, también el nuestro, el de todos nosotros, y lo lava, lo lava con su sangre, con la misericordia, con el amor de Dios. Miremos a nuestro alrededor: ¡cuántas heridas inflige el mal a la humanidad! Guerras, violencias, conflictos económicos que se abaten sobre los más débiles, la sed de dinero, que nadie puede llevárselo consigo, lo debe dejar. Amor al dinero, al poder, la corrupción, las divisiones, los crímenes contra la vida humana y contra la creación. Y también –cada uno lo sabe y lo conoce– nuestros pecados personales: las faltas de amor y de respeto a Dios, al prójimo y a toda la creación. Y Jesús en la cruz siente todo el peso del mal, y con la fuerza del amor de Dios lo vence, lo derrota en su resurrección. Este es el bien que Jesús nos hace a todos en el trono de la cruz. La cruz de Cristo, abrazada con amor, nunca conduce a la tristeza, sino a la alegría, a la alegría de ser salvados y de hacer un poquito eso que ha hecho él aquel día de su muerte.
