Vicar’s Message

Dearly Beloved in Christ,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ ! While a man was polishing his new car, his 6 year old son picked up a sharp rock and scratched lines on the side of the car. In anger, the man took the child's hand and hit the child many times; not realizing he was using a wrench. At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multi-ple fractures. When the child saw his father...with painful eyes he asked, 'Dad when will my fingers grow back?' The man was very hurt and speechless; he went back to his car and kicked it a lot of times. Devastated by his own actions.....sitting in front of that car he looked at the scratches; the child wrote 'LOVE YOU DAD'. The next day that man committed suicide. . . “Anger” and “Love” have no limits; choose the latter to have a beautiful, lovely life..… Things are to be used and people are to be loved. But the problem in today's world is that, People are used and things are loved. Let's be careful to keep this thought in our mind: Things are to be used, but People are to be loved.

The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. ( Ps:103:8)

If you want to learn how to love other people, you’ve got to first understand and feel how much God loves you. When you feel that unconditional love, you’re going to love others.

Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character; Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

May God bless us all. With Prayers, Moncey Achen

Dear Families of the St.Peter’s Mar Thoma Church,Teaneck, NJ,

We are drawing near to the end of 2016. Let us give glory to the Holy Trinity for the grace, blessings and mercies showered on us this year. There are three occasions this month I want to bring to your attention for reflection:

1. All Saint’s Day – November 1 This day is set apart to remember and honor those who

lead exemplary Christ-centered lives, and those who lost their lives witnessing the gospel. Every time we celebrate Holy Qurba-na, we remember them by chanting, “…we recall those gone be-fore us; grant their lives be an example, may we use their teach-ing as our guide…” To remember the lives of our dear ones who talk us to walk in the ways of the Lord is a biblical act (Hebrews 13:7), and inspires us to move in our faith journey, and to be more like them.

2. World Sunday School Day – November 6

Christian education is an essential part of the faith for-mation of the younger generation. The movement started by Rob-ert Raikes in the 19th century had a lasting impact in church his-tory. Sunday school teachers seek to teach/encourage the chil-dren, and reinforce what is taught at home. How can something be reinforced if it is not taught? Parents and families must partici-pate in the faith formation of children. This oath was taken by the godparent & parents in the presence of God, at the time of the baptism of the child. Let us focus on the spiritual growth of our younger generation, so that they can truly experience God, who seek His will, and witness Him.

Youth Chaplain’s Message

3. Thanksgiving Day – November 26

The original thanksgiving was a time of blessing in the midst of challenges for settlers Plymouth Colony (1621). They experienced the blessings and mercies of God through a fruitful harvest. They didn’t forget God Almighty who had been with them. Their response is exemplary: they set apart time in their life to offer gratitude to God. Do we set apart the same time as indi-viduals and families? Thanksgiving Day should not be the only day we offer thanks to God. Our very life itself should be a grati-tude offering to our Lord God.

May the grace and mercy of the Holy Trinity be with us all.

Sincerely, Philadelphia Thursday, October 20, 2016 Dennis Achen (Youth Chaplain)

FAMILY SUNDAY AND PARISH DAY Sun, October 23rd was observed as Family Sunday. The congre-gation sat together as family and took part in Holy communion service as “family”. The annual parish day was celebrated imme-diately after the Holy Communion service. Parish day meeting began with prayer by Moncey Achen. The meeting was blessed with melodious songs by our sunday school nursery kids and the Sunday School regional choir. Rev. Abraham Kuruvilla, Vicar Delaware Valley Mar Thoma Church was the chief guest. In his parish day message, Achen spoke about the family of Jesus and treating “Church” as our home. After the meeting, parishioners joined for fellowship and lunch downstairs. Parish Family Night was held on Sat, Oct 22nd in conjunction with Family Sunday and Parish Day. Dr. Binu Chacko spoke on the theme “Plugged In” and how we should spread the love of Christ among our church families.
