LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CEO

Happy New Year!

Thank you for taking a moment to review our 2012 Annual Report.

You’ll find this report to be an amazing reflection of so many people who have generously given oftheir time, energy, resources and – most importantly – their hearts and souls.

It’s the magic of this Chamber.

The passion of our members is contagious. At every level: Governing Board, Ambassadors,Council Members and Volunteers. They share and display a deep care and concern for the successof each other… of this community… and of this Chamber.

They inspire me every day. They are the “bright spots” for how we continue to grow our efforts.

And while caring for each other and for this community has become our second nature, we remain focused on our primary responsibility – to support the success of our business community and to enhance the climate for continued growth.

I’m proud of the progress we’ve made and filled with excitement for the opportunities ahead.

Sincerely,

Chris Steinocher President and CEO

ABOUT OUR THEME

This year’s theme was “stolen” from the book, Switch: How To Change When Change Is Hard.

Special thanks to Dan Heath, co-author of this book for joining us at our annual meeting.

“Bright spots” is a mindset. Rather than always lamenting on what is wrong or how hard it is to change, it inspires us to look for what is right in our community and organizations, identify what is working, learn why, and clone it.

LETTER FROM THE CHAIR

Dear Chamber Members and Community Partners,

As Chairman of the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, I have been blessed with the opportunity to be part of a wide range of events, activities and meetings that provide me with a unique perspective into our community.

It’s truly been an eye-opening experience for me – this City has so many good Chamber members working so hard to

make their businesses grow. There’s a tremendous sense of pride and loyalty to this community, and to this Chamber.

It has given me a much deeper appreciation for the role of this Chamber.

While the last two years have been about the Chamber getting strong again, it is my goal for 2013 to deepen our focus. We must once again be part of moving our

community forward. Our businesses depend on progress, a sense of certainty, and setting priorities. We cannot

rest and believe the newfound vibrancy of our City will continue without a plan for growth. Great communities

build on their successes. It is time we identify ours. I look forward to working with our Governing Board, our

Councils and our members on a plan for what matters most – a future of continued and inclusive prosperity.

Finally, I want to thank our 2012 Board and Leadership Team for all their hard work and dedication.

I believe you’ll find the following pages reflect a dedicated group of volunteers who have worked extremely

hard for our Chamber members and for our City. It is through their efforts that we have reestablished the

Chamber as the premier advocacy organization in our wonderful community.

I look forward to serving you in 2013.

Sincerely,

David R. Punzak Chair, 2012-13

Growing Business CouncilMISSION/VISION: Targeting entrepreneurial and small business growth in our community, this council promotes the efforts of other community organizations educating and supporting the business community, including WorkNet Pinellas and the City of St. Petersburg’s Business Assistance Center.

The Entrepreneurial Academy returned in the Fall of 2012 to great success. A class of 20 eager entrepreneurs at all levels participated – from those that had been in business for years and looking for best practices, to those just out of college considering starting their own firms. The ten week

program was presented by BB&T with media sponsorship from the Tampa Bay Times.

The Entrepreneurial Academy is taught by experts in various fields that come from our Chamber member-companies. The experts who taught the Fall 2012 class covered a wide variety of topics – including ‘how to write a business plan’, ‘how to be bankable,’ and many more. The program was capped off with a graduation dinner held at the St. Petersburg Museum of History.

We are looking forward to holding two Entrepreneurial Academy sessions in 2013:one in the Spring, beginning on March 18th, and another in the Fall.

About the Photos (L/R):

Chris Steinocher addresses the crowd at the unveiling of St. Petersburg’s new recycling bins.

Thanks to Coca Cola Recycling, the City of St. Petersburg and our Green Council, St. Petersburg now has recycling units downtown.

Volunteers of all ages work in one of St. Petersburg’s urban gardens.

Green CouncilMISSION/VISION: Focused on capitalizing on St. Petersburg’s designation as “Florida’s First Green City” and turning this asset into an economic advantage, this council works to ensure the visibility, viability and credibility of our community’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Highlighting Green BusinessesThe Green Council took the opportunity to highlight some of our community’s green and responsible businesses. From learning more about Pinellas County’s Waste Management to riding electronic assist bicycles and paddle boats at BionX, we saw that being environmentally friendly can also be economically feasible.

Clean, Beautiful and GreenIn 2012, the Green Council decided our number one priority was to establish a pedestrian-friendly recycling program in Downtown St. Petersburg. Utilizing the 2012 Republican National Convention hosting opportunity as a chance to broaden our partnerships, the Chamber worked closely with Coca Cola Recycling to sponsor a legacy project – 12 new sets of recycling bins for our downtown core. The City of St. Petersburg quickly became a partner in this effort and agreed to install and service these bins. Together, our Chamber, our City and Coca Cola Recycling created a visible symbol of the care we all share for our community.

Thanks to the following people who stepped up to help with the Recycling Bin project: Tom Roberts, Pinellas County Waste Management; Debra Davies, Tradewinds Island Resort; Mario Farias, The Farias Marketing Group; Sean Williams, Ot9 Design; Michael Connors, City of St. Pete; Mike Gulley, CONA; Winnie Foster, Sojourner Truth Center; Theresa Crane, Progress Energy/Duke; Nancy Frainetti, BionX International, Melanie Jackson, Colliers; Sharon Joy Kleitsch, Connection Partners.

Urban AgricultureThe Chamber’s Green Council continues to support the urban farmers in St. Petersburg. The Chamber, along with a grant from Bon Secours of St. Petersburg and the supportof the City of St Petersburg, helped launch the newly formed “Sustainable UrbanAgriculture Coalition.” This group is focused on building a strategic plan forcontinued growth of resources and support for theSt Pete’s urban farms. Promotions CouncilMISSION/VISION: Focused on the benefits of a healthy tourism-based economy while also supporting the buzz and promotion of local events, this council acts as advisors, promoters and protectors of our community brand.

Republican National ConventionIn preparation for the major political convention that descended on our region this past August, the Promotions Council interfaced with the 2012 Host Committee, the Republican National Committee and various other planning groups to provide a platform for information sharing and interaction with Chamber members and other local businesses. The group sought out information on RNC activities and opportunities and found ways to share this information with Chamber members and the community.

Good ‘Burger AwardsThe Chamber is recognizing our members in whole new way in 2013. We’re launching our “Good ‘Burger Awards” event this Spring. (Think of: a resident of this city as a St. Petersburger!) Nominations for the first annual Good ‘Burger Awards were compiled by a committee of ten Chamber member-volunteers, who spent countless hours combing through lists of Chamber members in search of those that stand out. The nominees are being presented in a public online vote to take place from February 1 – February 15.

New Signature Events in 2012The First Annual Chamber Classic

This new event was widely touted as a BIG success! Fifteen Chamber members stepped up to sponsor the tournament, and they were each offered a place on the course where they could interact with the golfers throughout the day. Every sponsor brought something special to the event, many with surprising tricks up their sleeve. Some sponsors came with a creative theme – like Mardi Gras, Old-Timey Golf, and a “Tea Party”. Some had fun games and contests – like a money machine cash giveaway, a putting contest (with a hammer), or a bags toss for prizes. But it was the St. Pete Young Professionals’ “Longest Drive” Contest that won the coveted prize of “Most Outrageous Sponsor”. This, plus the hard work and dedication of all of our sponsors, contributed to an unprecedented atmosphere of fun that caused rumors of this being “The Best Golf Tournament Ever”.•84% of participants who were surveyed after the event said the tournament was “Super awesome. I want to play again next year.” (Another 14% said it was “The best

golf tournament ever. No contest.”)•The event raised $22,000 for the Chamber. WOW!

What is the primary benefit, in your opinion, to your Chamber Membership?

2012 MembershipOur efforts to retain and attract membership found much success in 2012. We continue to evaluate our value proposition for membership, and in the Fall of 2012, we conducted a member survey for feedback and direction. The survey will be conducted annually and used as a benchmark against which we can measure our performance for years to come.
