God sees all the good that we do!

Let us not grow tired of doing good, for in due time we shall reap our harvest, if we do not give up. Gal 6:9 How often have we done something for someone only to later think, “no good deed goes unpunished”?

We lend a tool to a neighbor and are sued when they hurt themselves. We make a meal for someone and are reprimanded because the bread isn’t gluten-free.

We have a play date to give someone a break and are still waiting for their return six hours later. These situations, and many more like them, are demoraliz-

ing and depressing. Should we throw in the towel on trying to do good? Absolutely and emphatically—no, we should not!

We are not called to do good and help others just so we can feel good about ourselves. Service does not

guarantee any recognition in this life, not even the appreciation of others. We have been tasked with doing good because it is God’s will for us. He sees

all that we do and try to do for others. God knows the sacrifices we make in service to others. He will re-ward us. There will be no lawsuits, no gluten com-

plaints, no black holes of lost time—only abundant blessings in proportion to our deeds. Jesus reminds us in today’s gospel that being His

follower is often hard. Yet the heart of our Christian identity is service to others. Jesus tells us that God sees all the good that we do and will reward us abun-

dantly in heaven.

Stewardship Moment - June 28th, 2020 13th Sunday of Ordinary Time

“…whoever does not take up his cross and fol-low after me is not worthy of me.” Matt 10:38 Pope Benedict XVI said “The world offers you comfort. But you were not made for comfort, you were made for greatness”. “Comfort” puts me first. “Picking up your cross and following Jesus” puts God and others first. Why settle for comfort when you can achieve greatness! Pick up your cross, ask Jesus for guidance on using your gifts and live the life God intended for you!
