Dear Parishioners,
Saint Irenaeus, the second century Bishop and
a Father of the Church, taught that “the glory of God is
a person fully alive.” This teaching, as appealing as it
may be, leaves us with an important question: “Just
what brings a person to be fully alive?”
Finding an answer to this question is not diffi-
cult, as the answer has been taught by the Church since
its beginning. If one wants to truly experience the new
and abundant life that Christ came to give, then one
needs to pursue holiness. We find holiness of life by
striving to live according to the two great command-
ments taught by Jesus: loving God with all our heart,
mind, soul, and strength; and loving our neighbor as
ourselves. For the perfect example of holiness, we
need only look to Jesus and then pattern our lives on
his.
Obviously, we cannot lead a life in imitation of
our Lord all on our own. Rather, growing in holiness
of life requires us to rely upon God’s grace and assis-
tance. This grace comes through receiving the sacra-
ments, especially Holy Communion through which we
are nourished by Jesus himself. It also comes from re-
flecting on Scripture and through daily prayer.
The way to experience the new and abundant
life Jesus came to give us is no mystery. It is found in
pursuing holiness of life. To attain this we need to rely
upon God, and to accept the innumerable gifts and
graces he bestows upon us and makes available to us
each day, while doing our fair share of the work.
God Love Ya!

World Meeting of Families Prayer
God and Father of us All
In Jesus, your Son and our Savior
You have made us your sons and daughters
In the family of the Church.
May your grace and love help our families
In every part of the world
Be united to one another
In fidelity to the Gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family
With the aid of your Holy Spirit
Guide all families, especially those most troubled
To be homes of communion and prayer
And to always seek your truth and live in your love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Pray for us!
World Meeting of Families 2015
PREP REGISTRATION March 1 – April 30, 2014
Registration for PREP is under way. Our PREP is a one week, full day, summer program for students in grades 1 through 7. The program will be held June 22 – 26 from 8:15 AM – 2:45 PM. The summer program will be supple-mented with five Sunday family formation sessions during the academic year along with spiritual and service activities for the family. Specific details and program requirements may be found on our parish website at www.strichardchurch.org/prep.htm. Registration for this program begins March 1 and will con-tinue through April 30. The program is only open to regis-tered families of St. Richard Parish. Students eligible to enroll in this program should be entering into 1st through 7th grade in September 2015 (i.e., those who are currently in grades K through 6th). Registration forms for current PREP families will be mailed directly to the home. Others may obtain registration forms by calling 215-468-4777 or stop-ping in the parish office during business hours. Forms may also be obtained on our PREP Homepage at www.strichardchurch.org/prep.htm. WE NO LONGER OFFER A WEEKLY CCD
PROGRAM. If you know of an eligible child who will be entering into 1st grade in September, then please let them know they must register for this summer program now! For more information, please contact Dennis M. Mueller at 215-468-4777 or [email protected].
World Meeting of Families In order to help us prepare for the World Meeting of Fami-lies and the anticipated visit from Pope Francis, a catechism of family life entitled, Love is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive, has been prepared. Over the next few months, our parish will reflect on chapters from this catechism. You can order a copy of this catechism and learn about the World Meeting of Families at WorldMeeting2015.org.
Chapter 5: Creating the Future Sexual intimacy between a man and a woman raises the possibility of children. There are many other honorable rela-tionships which include degrees of commitment and affec-tion, but marriage has a unique mission: to integrate the fertility of male and female with the fidelity of God’s cove-nant. Catholic parenting relies on the same rationale as sac-ramental marriage: love in the shape of service, sacrifice, trust, and openness to God’s will. If and when a marriage is blessed with children, love orients parents to their children’s education and spiritual formation. Jesus said to his disciples “Let the children come unto me,” and it is the responsibility of all Catholic adults to shepherd children into a relation-ship with God and the people of God. The whole parish should be involved in supporting marriages, families and children. We build the future of our society child by child, family by family. Vatican II called the family a “domestic church,” and the little church of the family takes its orienta-tion from the faith and mission of the larger Church. It is a mother’s and a father’s responsibility to be with children at home and in church, and to pray together regularly. Chil-dren will learn the faith only when they are taught. The way a family responds to adversity, or gathers for meals, or makes financial decisions and sets priorities - these and many other aspects of “home economics” shape the values and identities of our children. “love is our mission” because even in the middle of our humble daily routines, Catholics live with a bold and glorious purpose. - Christopher C. Rob-erts, catechism editor

Fast and Abstinence
and
Other Acts of Penance for Lent
The Bishops of the United States prescribe, as minimal obli-gation, that all persons who are fourteen years of age and older are bound to abstain from eating meat on all the Fri-days of Lent and Good Friday. Further, all persons eighteen years of age and older, up to and including their fifty-ninth birthday, are bound to fast by limiting themselves to a single full meal on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday, while the other two meals on those days are to be light. All the faithful are encouraged, when possible, to participate at Mass and to receive the Holy Eucharist daily, to celebrate frequently the Sacrament of Penance, to undertake spiritual reading, especially the study of the Sacred Scriptures, and to participate in parish Lenten devotions as well as Lenten edu-cation programs. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is es-pecially recommended. All are encouraged to participate in Operation Rice Bowl which has aided countless hungry persons here in the Arch-diocese as well as throughout our nation and our world.

Children’s Easter Baskets
for Families in Need
We are planning to put together Children’s Easter Baskets to give to families in need in our parish and local commu-nity. Last year due to your generosity, we made over 130 baskets for children in need.
We are requesting the following items, which may be brought to church on the assigned Sunday.
Sunday, March 15: Bring baskets. These can be new or used Easter Baskets from years past. You know you have a few lying around in storage. Bring them with you to church and give them a second life. Please no large brown wicker baskets. - Easter Baskets only.
Sunday, March 22: Bring Easter grass, cello-
phane wrapping, and/or
bows. These items will be added to the baskets collected to create the perfect holiday gift.
Sunday, March 29: Bring candy! What Easter basket would be complete without all of the goodies and delights? Bring bags of chocolates, jelly beans, Peeps, and more with you to church. There will be boxes at the front entrance of the church for you to deposit items. Then on Sunday, March 29, following the 11:30 Mass for Palm Sunday, volunteers will gather in the school hall to assemble the Easter Baskets. If you’d like to volunteer then just report to the school hall following the 11:30 Mass and you’ll be put to work. Hop to it!
