GATHERING HYMN
Behold, O Zion, God Will Come
1. Behold, O Zion, God will come To save the nations of the earth. Your hearts will quicken at the sound Of his majestic, glorious voice.
2. O Israel’s Shepherd, hear our prayer. You guided Joseph like a flock. In all your splendor show yourself, Who rides above the heav’nly host.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM
R/. To you, O Lord, I lift my soul, to you, I lift
my soul.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION R/. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
COMMUNION HYMN Abba Father
REFRAIN: Abba, Abba Father, You are the potter; we are the clay, the work of your hands.
1. Mold us, mold us and fashion us into the image of Jesus, your Son, of Jesus, your Son. (Refrain)
2. Father, may we be one in you. May we be one in you as he is in you, and you are in him. (Refrain)
3. Glory, glory and praise to you. Glory and praise to
you forever, amen, forever, amen. (Refrain)
MYSTERY OF FAITH
When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, we proclaim your Death, O Lord, until you come again.
LAMB OF GOD
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us….. Grant us peace.
RECESSIONAL
The Advent of Our God
1. The advent of our God With eager prayer we greet; With humble hearts we shall go forth, God’s glorious gift to meet.
2. The everlasting Son Incarnate deigns to be; Himself a servant’s form puts on To set all people free.
Music reprinted with permission under OneLicense.net A-735280
JESSE TREE
1. Sitting with my brothers, sitting with my sister, sitting by the Jesse tree! Waiting with my brothers, waiting with my sisters, waiting by the Jesse tree! Why are you waiting boys? Why are you waiting girls? Who are you waiting for?
2. Little boys will bring lions to the spring; little girls will bring calves there, too. The wolf will live in peace with the lamb; the cows and the bears will make friends!
3. Gonna be a great day; gonna take the night away. We’ll sing and dance and jump and run. It could be fun, like playing in the sun, that Great Day when he comes! (CHORUS)
CHORUS: Stand up and sing! Here come the King! Here comes the Lord of Lords! That’s who we’re waiting for!
Mass of Creation Marty Haugen
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest.
NICENE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, Catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

You are at the eye doctor and it’s time for the peripheral
vision test. You know the one. It’s where you put your
head up to a contraption and have to click a switch every
time you see a squiggly line. If you don’t concentrate and
maintain optimal focus, you will miss them and skew the
outcome of the test. You can easily find yourself with a
diagnosis that really isn’t accurate! Concentration and
focus are key to succeeding with this evaluation. They are
also key to developing a healthy, vibrant spiritual life.
If we do not bring our full consciousness to the task,
concentrate with all our might, be watchful and vigilant,
we are not going to see God’s loving presence flashing
before our eyes!
That’s why we need Advent. Let’s face it. We can
easily get distracted, focus on nonessential and superficial
things and lose touch with what really matters. Our
attentions wander. We daydream and even become a bit
overwhelmed and tired. All of the stresses and demands
of life consume us and we find ourselves constantly trying
to play catch up rather than relishing the moment of the
now. “Now” moments are so fleeting. They flash before
us like those squiggly lines on a screen. Present moments
go as quickly as they come but it is important to discover
them and rest in them as often as we can. Though gone
in a flash, these now moments of encounter with God
teach powerful lessons and offer a grounding in truth that
can be found nowhere else. It’s the grace of Advent to
become watchful and attentive because we are never sure
when God will surprise us.
God loves surprises and love thrives on them! God’s
now moments of surprises come as tender instants of inti-
mate connection where I find profound peace, experience
joy, and rest in love. These are Advent times reflective of
the now moments when Christ first was born, when God
surprises us during every time we care to watch and when
the great surprise of Christ’s second coming dawns upon
us all. But, to discover the grandeur and experience the
awe of these now times, we have to be ready. We have to
want to be there. We have to believe. And, we have to
have the desire to soak in as much as we can in the time
we have before us.

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
Heavenly Father, your loving providence accompanies
us on our life’s journey.
Thank you for the many gifts you have given us.
We ask that you continue to call sons and daughters
from our families and parishes
to serve as priests, deacons and consecrated men and
women in the Diocese of Greensburg.
Send your Spirit upon us
so that many will respond with great love
to your call to service and leadership in your Church.
Give to those you have chosen the faith of the apostle,
the vision of the prophet, and the courage of the martyr.
Through the intercession of our Diocesan patroness, Our
Lady of the Assumption, help us to be faithful
disciples of your Son by following the example of Mary.
Make us generous in sharing ourselves and our talents
for the sake of your Kingdom on earth.
We ask this through Christ the Risen Lord.
Amen.
