Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ:
When a teacher introduces a new idea, students sometimes resist it. They may
complain, “I don’t get it. It doesn’t make sense to me.” In today’s Gospel, when
Jesus began teaching the Jews that he himself was the “bread that came down
from heaven,” they muttered and murmured in complaint. They thought they
knew who Jesus was. But Jesus responds by promising them that if they eat the
living bread, they will live forever. He will give his flesh for the life of the world.
In the Eucharist, we experience the truth of Jesus’ promise. We receive the living
bread and know that we shall live forever. This week I ask that you spend some
time quietly discerning this passage. Reflect on how the “living bread” has sus-
tained you in good times and bad. Determine if there have been times you mur-
mured against Jesus. If possible, arrange to spend one hour in the Adoration
Chapel alone with our Lord. Be confident in knowing that God, through Jesus in
his word and Eucharist guides and nourishes us on our life journey. Resolve to
make each celebration of the Eucharist a cause of joy for you.

When a child dies a family suffers intense pain and may feel hopeless and isolated. The Compassionate Friends provides personal comfort, hope, and support to every family experiencing the death of a son or a daughter, a brother or a sister, or a grandchild.

Ses-sions will begin on August 21 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm and will continue on Tuesday evenings until October 30. We also offer Searchlight Virtual School for Catechist Certification that you can do online and during the hours most convenient for you.
