Dear Parishioners and Visitors,

SAINT RITA OF CASCIA CHURCH 3

Come Holy Spirit! Fill the Hearts of Your Faithful!

This year as we celebrate what many refer to as “The Birthday of The Church,” we have administered the initiation sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Eucharist to well over one hundred young and also adult members of our parish. It is liturgical Springtime in the Church local and Universal!

Five years ago now, as a particular faith community, we embarked upon a new consciousness and spirit of stewardship; in other words, in “The 2012 Year of Faith,” we of St. Rita Parish embraced the New Evangelization with high purpose and intent to “be church.” These, then, are very important days for St. Rita Parish to pray for the help and advocacy of the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us as a parish that wills to be strong and vital to the mission of Jesus going forward. Also important is our prayer that we may be ever conscious of being linked as the

Body of Christ to all of the parishes that make up our Deanery, our

Pastoral Region of San Gabriel, our Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and to the Church Universal.

Having celebrated our patronal feast day of Saint Rita of Cascia, this Solemnity of Pentecost we make all of our prayers to The Holy Trinity through her intercession—she who was wife, mother, and vowed religious. If we model our lives on hers, we stand to receive a wonderful encouragement for our continuance as a community desirous of only the Peace that Christ can offer us. Like her we seek, by indwelling of God’s Most Holy Spirit, to live in Holy Communion with the One that IS our Communion.

Mary, Queen of Peace, Pray for Us!

Saint Rita of Cascia, Saint of the Impossible,

Pray for Us! And this Pentecost, Happy Birthday to Us, Church Local and Universal!

—Msgr. Richard

REST IN PEACE

Roy Pecot, Jr.

Special Collections in June June 11 – Retirement Fund for Archdiocesan Priests. This collection is very dear to our Pastor because he will be a beneficiary of this Fund when he retires. Special envelopes are on the tables in the Vestibule and also in your monthly envelope packet.

June 11 – Maintenance/Repairs. This monthly fund is crucial to keeping our physical plant—church, school, halls, and office—in good condition. Summer is approaching and, once again, our Edison bills will spike because of the air conditioning demand. Use the blue envelope in your monthly envelope packet—or write “blue” or “Maintenance” on any envelope and/or your check memo line.

Thank you for your generosity.

SEND OUT YOUR SPIRIT Last week we heard that, following the Ascension, the disciples, Mary, and other followers of the Lord retreated to the upper room in prayer. This week we hear that, while praying in that room, the Holy Spirit comes upon them. Jesus’ post-Resurrection promise, recounted in today’s Gospel, is fulfilled: the power of the Holy Spirit comes upon Jesus’ followers. Saint Paul tells us that all of us, in some way, are given gifts of the Holy Spirit, gifts that can be used to spread the Good News. Today is one of the Church’s greatest festivals. Let us carry the refrain of the responsorial psalm with us throughout the coming week: “Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth!” (Psalm 104:30).

Q&A Capital Campaign

Construction Update!

To complete Master Plan Phase 1A, renovations in the Sanctuary and the second floor of Gara Hall will begin on Monday, June 19th. We will be gathering in an intimate worship space in O'Malley Hall for all Sunday and Weekday Liturgies throughout the entire summer. Your patience while we update and refresh our Sanctuary is very appreciated. Please look in your mail this week for all of the exciting details about our projects to be completed this summer! These projects are made possible through the generous donations of those who have contributed to our "Strengthening our Holy Communion-Growing in Faith, Hope and Love", Capital Campaign.

A Hospitality Note

Thank you to all those Ministries who helped by hosting one—or more—Hospitality Sundays since

September through this weekend. Each hosting requires a lot of work and time, and depends on Ministry individual members to make it work! So, next Fall, when you pop into Gara Hall to grab a donut or cup of coffee, stop to say thank you to the hosts—and maybe consider volunteering to help. And, none of this could happen without the tireless efforts of Denise Reiser who spends a good deal of time contacting ministries, coordinating calendars, and cajoling reluctant groups to do their part and host. Denise, we are grateful for your enthusiasm, and your cheerful and reliable help! Hospitality is now on hiatus for the summer during construction time. See you in September!

SAINT RITA OF CASCIA CHURCH 7

Thank you to the volunteers who helped staff the religious items sales table on St. Rita Feast Day. Our visitors love to have the opportunity to purchase statues, rosaries, votive candles, holy cards, medals and so many other St. Rita items, as they are very devoted to our Patroness.

Despite the stifling heat, volunteers in many cases worked longer than their two-hour shift. So a very heartfelt public thank you is due to: Karla Burden, Lenore Crilly, Cristina Cullen, Susie Day, Marilyn Delgatto, Mary Higgins, Vivian Lauricella, Julie Loera, Noreen McLennan, Toni Navarro, Carolyn Owen, Maria Paszek, Ana Ptasinski, Shirley Schirmer, Julie Savage, Mary Taillac, and Marianne Van Cleef. We could not have done it without you!

And a super thank you to Gary Hrstich who helped us pick up the items from out supplier, unload them, then move them again on the Feast Day, set up the tables, put up the canopy (with help from Mark Hischier), run all day long keeping our supplies filled, and then putting everything away at the end of the day. But wait—it doesn’t stop there! The day after Gary brought all the unsold items to the Parish Office so we could put them away for the year. One thank you is not enough for all the help Gary provided us on the Feast Day.

—Rosemary Hagerott & Marilyn McKernan, St. Rita Feast Day Sales Co-Chairs
