St. Rose School Monthly ~ Messenger
- We Exist to Bring the Catholic Faith to Life -
Principal Headliner –January 2017
On November 20, 2016 at Vatican City, Pope Francis closed a special Holy Year of Mercy. It may have gotten by us that this Holy Year was coming to a close, as we may not have noted the end with as much fanfare as it began. Francis said the Holy Year of Mercy was a chance for Catholics to rediscover the core, the return to what is essential” and to “rediscover the youthful, beautiful face of the church, the face that is radiant when it is welcoming, free, faithful, poor in means but rich I love, on mission.” This Jubilee Year of Mercy is not lived over a 365 day period and ended when the last Holy Door in Rome is closed…Pope Francis used this year as an opportunity to “rediscover”. Let us rediscover and let God use us differently in this world that so needs our un-failing mercy and love. http://www.catholicherald.co.uk/news/2016/11/21/full-text-popes-apostolic-letter-concluding-year-of-mercy/ This link provides “The complete text of Misericordia et misera … Apostolic Letter of Pope Fran-cis at the Conclusion of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy” Pope Francis begins by saying, “TO ALL WHO READ THIS APOSTOLIC LETTER, MERCY AND PEACE. Mercy and Peace…as simple as that. How is it we can enter the Advent Season and Christmas without Mercy and Peace? We must pray for peace. We must find mercy. We pray for these for ourselves and for others. This IS what The Holy Year of Mercy is all about. “Misericordia et misera is a phrase used by Saint Augustine in recounting the story of Jesus meet-ing with a woman caught in adultery (Jn 8:1-11).” And the quote continues… “It would be difficult to imagine a more beautiful or apt way of expressing the mystery of God’s love when it touches the sinner: ‘the two of them alone remained: mercy with misery’. What great mercy and divine justice shine forth in this narrative! Its teaching serves not only to throw light on the conclusion of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, but also to point out the path that we are called to follow in the future.” Hmmmmm… Much like the “Star in the East … where the Christ Child lay”? Mercy and Peace in this New Year…It’s as simple as that!!
