I have taught the Preschool Faith Forma3on for 9 years, which I absolutely love doing. I have also served on

the Faith Forma3on Commission for 3 years. I’ve par3cipated in MOMS, and various commiDees within the

Saint Simon School, such as teacher luncheon, Science Olympiad, Book Fair CommiDee, and School Supplies.

My husband and I are also Marriage Sponsor Prep Couple. In the past I’ve helped with ac3vi3es such as

Vaca3on Bible School and Super Saturday.

Why do you want to be a part of the School Commission?

My youngest child will be in 5th grade next year, which means that with a 3 year commission commitment,

this is a way to complete our Saint Simon school experience.

I am a member of the Women's Club, a parent of children in the school ministry (Kate –2nd grade, David - Pre-K, William (1 yr.), and have participated in Welcome (Christ Renews His Parish), and a MOMs group. Additionally, I was part of the Royal Extravaganza committee, co-chaired Breakfast with Santa, and am the Girl Scout troop leader for the second grade Brownies.


As a product of the Lafayette Catholic School System, I can attest to the powerful experience of a Catholic education. The ability to pray, learn, and practice our faith in a school setting is life-changing. I believe it is vitally important for young people to understand God is with them always, and they are a treasured part of the Lord's plan.

I would like to be part of the school commission because I have the experience and passion for education, learning, and children. I am a teacher by trade and hold an M.Ed in Reading Education. I have taught third, fifth, and sixth grades in both an urban public charter school in Washington D.C. and a private school. Additionally, I was a critical reading specialist at the university level.I worked as a research analyst for the National Center for Teacher Quality and am currently a teacher evaluator for The New Teacher Project’s Indy Teaching Fellows program.

We often also participate in donations and volunteer for St. Gianna Society and the Parish Carnival. In 2019/2020, I was able to leverage a program through my corporate employer to enhance the programs and donation of supplies & materials available for STEM education, working closely with Paula Pletcher to also increase opportunity for career days in scientific labs and local professionals available for career discussions/mentorships.

Why do you want to be a part of the School Commission? I believe I can bring a unique and balanced perspective and access to professional network to the school commission to ensure we are truly developing all of our students to their fullest ability. I have a daughter with CIEP and also understand the dynamics of a parent struggling to ensure their child’s full potential is being met. I truly believe with enhanced focus on adding hands-on learning to the curriculum (STEM, etc.) the experience of families and students education can be exponentially improved. I strongly value the Catholic education and also see several opportunities for aiding the growth of our students with the school mission.

For the last two years, I’ve been a Faith Formation volunteer parent in the PreK classroom. In 2018, I attended Welcome and was a part of the ministry team that sponsored the event for the 2019 Welcome participants. In March 2020, my family and I attended the parish family retreat and had a great time.

Why do you want to be a part of the School Commission? I want to be a member of the St.Simon school commission because I believe in the value of Catholic education - emotionally, spiritually, and academically. As a child, I attended a parochial school and later attended an all-girl Catholic high school in Michigan. My Catholic education has been deeply ingrained in my formative years, and I want my sons to be instilled with Cathloic values at home and at school. In fall 2020, my son, CJ, will begin kindergarten and he is very excited. As an attorney, I have a strong commitment to education and want to support my parish to continue to be the best Catholic school for our community. I promise to do my best to serve the parish and to be an advocate for the St.Simon school community.

As with many of us in the parish, I continually think about how I can best use my talents to serve our parish and

Community. Two of my children, currently in first and kindergarten, have been enrolled with St. Simon since pre-

Kindergarten, and hope my youngest will be enrolled in the next year. I am continually amazed by the high quality of

Education, integrated with our catholic faith that our school continually produces. By serving on the school

Commission I want to use my talents to help ensure those high standards and faith endure for the future of students.

My family and I have been parishioners for the last 7 years. My husband and I have a 2nd grade son, kindergarten son, and our 3rd son will be starting Pre-K next year. I have participated and volunteered in a variety of activities at St. Simon. I was Co-President of the Women’s Club Ministry for 2 years. We held monthly meetings for the women of our parish, as well as helped with many different ministries and events in our parish. As Co-President, I helped with the bounce houses at the Fish Fry, Easter Egg Hunt, Women’s Club Cornhole Tournaments, the front entrance for the Festival, Parish Picnics, Giving Tree at Christmas, and helped with different receptions and events as needed. We also helped Father John achieve his vision of having Mass-on-the-Grass come to life for our parish. We have continued Mass-on-the-Grass, with Father Doug. I have volunteered on the Royal Ex Committee for the last three years, helping with the decorating committee and a variety of other tasks to help the committee. This year I volunteered to help PFO with the Taste of St. Simon, by setting up Qtego, the online auction. I have also participated in CRHP, Mom’s Circle, and the School Focus Groups last year.


Over the last several years, I have volunteered for different ministries around our parish. One ministry I thought I could give more of my time and skills was our school ministry. I regularly volunteer in my children’s classrooms, but I felt the need to do more for our school. My background is in education and it has always been my passion. I have my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, with a Special Education endorsement. I taught Preschool Special Education in Warren Township before becoming a stay-at-home mom. Last year, I lead one of the focus groups for our parish. Throughout that experience I realized that I like working with staff, parents, and the School Commission to figure out ways to strengthen our school. I enjoy volunteering at St. Simon. I could be a valuable asset to the School Commission using my background, strengths, and love for St. Simon.
