Respect For Life From August 7 to August 15, Priests for Life invites believers to pray the Novena in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Seven Gifts Of The Holy Spirit The Manifestation of Sanctifying Grace

As the current Catechism of the Catholic Church (para. 1831) notes, the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit "complete and perfect the virtues of those who receive them." Infused with His gifts, we respond to the promptings of the Holy Spirit as if by instinct, the way Christ Himself would.

01] Wisdom is the first and highest gift of the Holy Spirit because it is the perfection of the theological virtue of faith. Through wisdom, we come to value properly those things which we believe through faith. The truths of Christian belief are more important than the things of this world, and wisdom helps us to order our relationship to the created world properly, loving Creation for the sake of God, rather than for its own sake.

02] Understanding is the second gift of the Holy Spirit, and people sometimes have a hard time understanding (no pun intended) how it differs from wisdom. While wisdom is the desire to contemplate the things of God, understanding allows us to grasp, at least in a limited way, the very essence of the truths of the Catholic faith. Through understanding, we gain a certitude about our beliefs that moves beyond faith.

[To Be Continued] by Scott P. Richert

Lord Jesus Christ You have conquered the power of death

And opened for humanity The hope of eternal life in body and soul.

You granted your Mother A share in heavenly glory,

And did not allow decay to touch her body. As we rejoice in the Assumption of Mary, Grant us new confidence in the victory of

life over death. And renewed reverence for the human body. As we honor Mary, Assumed into Heaven,

May we proclaim the hope of Your Gospel: That you want every human life seated on your throne.

May we proclaim the hope of Your Gospel: That you want every human life sealed on your throne.

May that hope strengthen us to protect every life here on earth. You live and reign forever and ever.

Amen

We continue to sell car magnets, “He Is Risen”, for a council banner. It is a great way to evangelize our Catholic faith. A donation of $5.00 is appreciated for a car magnet.

What does it mean to be a Catholic Man? Ecce Homo —Behold the Man

Why is Fatherhood, Fully Understood, So Crucial for Every Man?

Where Is the Faith of Our Fathers Now?

As I write this exhortation, videos are being released documenting the barbaric practice of selling baby body parts by Planned Parenthood. Since this infamous agency receives around half a billion dollars each year from the U.S. Government, funds to carry on their slaughter of innocents, no American citizen, and certainly no man, can remain silent about this travesty of our times. We need to get off the sidelines and stand up for life on the front lines. We need faith like that of our fathers who defended the children of previous generations and who gave up their own lives rather than abandon their faith in Christ. My sons and brothers, we need you to step into the breach!

The Catholic martyrs of England inspired Frederick W. Faber to write the hymn “Faith of our Fathers” in AD 1849. As Faber paid tribute to the men who refused to deny Christ “in spite of dungeon, fire, and sword,” he also issued a call to arms for the men of succeeding generations. Join me in praying that we, men of the 21st century, will make the words of this verse our own:

“Our Fathers, chained in prisons dark, Were still in heart and conscience free:

How sweet would be their children’s fate, If they, like them, could die for Thee!

Faith of our Fathers! Holy Faith! We will be true to thee till death.”

The age of casual Catholicism is over, the age of heroic Catholicism has begun. We can no longer be Catholics by accident but instead we must be

Catholics by conviction. Fr. Terrence Henry, TOR, Franciscan University of Steubenville

Right of Christian Initiation of Adults

Catholic Beliefs

Three Primary Sacraments of the Catholic Church The Sacrament of Confirmation

Trad i t iona l l y, the Sac rament o f Confirmation is the second of the sacraments of initiation. The Eastern Church continues to confirm (or chrismate) both infants and adults immediately after Baptism. (In the Western Church, that order is still respected as well in the case of adult converts, who are usually baptized and confirmed in the same ceremony.) Even in the West, where Confirmation is routinely delayed until a person's teen years, several years after his or her First Communion, the Church continues to stress the theological implications of the original order of the sacraments (most recently in Pope Benedict XVI's apostolic exhortation Sacramentum caritatis). Confirmation is the perfection of Baptism, and it gives us the grace to live our life as a Christian boldly and without shame. [To be continued]
