From the Desk of VicarMeaning of Passion Week

What does passion week mean to us? Is it just an annual remembrance of the passion- the pain and suffering, crucifixion, death, and resurrection of our Lord- for all of us?In Malayalam this week is called "Kastanubhava Varam" meaning a week to experience passion, and not simply remembering the Passion, as beautifully illustrated in the film-Passion of the Christ. How do we do this?During the Last Supper Jesus said that He is giving up His body and blood for us and he did this for us as He promised. He commanded that in turn we too should do this in His memory. Out of the 12 apostles, I understand that 11 gave up their life (martyrdom) in their work for our Lord.What are we doing? Some of us observe lent giving up meat, or fish, or both for fifty days of lent. We spent more time in lip service prayer. Is that enough?In one of the special prayers of lent we say that prayer is good, but if any one says the prayer with out love it has no effect. Lent is good, but if any one observe the lent without love it has no effect.Jesus taught us that the ultimate love is to love the enemies. He showed us how to do this from the cross when He prayed for those who insulted him and punished Him. Do we learn anything from the cross and practice what we learn?Jesus illustrated how love is manifested in action- Matthew 25-35,"I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger, and you invited me in, I was in need of clothes and you gave me clothes, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." It is time for us to practices what we learn from the cross, surrender ourselves saying not as I will, but as You will, not only for Passion Week, but for the whole life and follow the cross to win the Kingdom of Heaven.May the Almighty strengthen us to do His service.

WORD OF THANKS TO DEAR PARISHIONERS - ADIOSElecting new office bearers means saying farewell to those who have held the role. Hence it is our time now to say “elalleqa”. On the outset we want to thank God for the opportunity to serve St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church during year 2011-12. It was through this Parish that we were able to experience the joy of serving Christ.Looking back, 2011-12 was an eventful year esp. for St. Thomas Family. We had another successful year of Ministry and Fellowship, and it would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our members. Apart from the usual programs, we have successfully organized Sargothsav, St. Thomas Fest, Bachelor’s meet, Medical Professionals Meet, etc. As you are aware, all of Kuwait’s Malayalee Christian community are looking forward to attend our Christmas Carol and a record number of people attended this year’s Carol. The role we played to turn the Mar Thoma Pravasi Sangamam a grand success was lauded by all Mar Thoma Parishners of Kuwait. We take this opportunity to thank our Vicar Rev. Thomas Koshy Panachamoottil for his able leadership, timely advice and guidance. We also thank all the office-bearers of the organizations, Sunday School, Sevika Sangham, Youth League, Edavaka Mission for their unconditional support.The role of Kaisthana Samithy was significant and meaningful.. We thank all members of Kaisthana Samithy, office bearers of Prayer Groups for their relentless support given to us.Certainly meetings can be long; assignments can be difficult; feelings can be hurt, but the ministry gets carried on because the objectives are high and we were committed to achieve it. To commemorate the First Mar Thoma holy Communion 60 years ago at Ahmadi Anglican Church on 4th April, 1952 using the Mar Thoma Order of Worship by H.G. The Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostam Mar Thoma Valia Methrapolita (Then, Rev. Philip Oommen), the Mar Thoma Kuwait Center has decided to celebrate the occasion with a Holy Communion followed by a Public Meeting on 20th April, 2012 at Fintas Co-operative Society Hall ( Near London Hospital). 60TH YEAR CELEBRATIO N OF HOLY QuRBANA

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL - 2012Our Sunday school organized this year’s VBS from 21st to 29th March 2012 with the theme ‘ABBA FATHER’. A record number of students (about 270) enrolled for the VBS; not only from our church but also from sister parishes and other churches. Mr. Anil M. John from Sunday School Samajam, Thiruvalla, was the director. The children were exposed daily to highly interactive singing and games sessions as well as thoughtful biblical sessions. On the final day, various presentations were made on the stage by the children displaying what they studied during the VBS. We appreciate the efforts of Mrs. Susan John Mathew (Convener), Mr. Varghese Oommen (Secretary), and Mrs. Jinu John (Trustee).
