2017-2018 Disciples Response Fund Pledge Report
Monthly pledge payments for the DRF pledges should be made in the next few days. It is very important that these pledges be paid so that our parish will reach our target. Once we have reached target in paid pledges, 50% of the additional funds received will be returned to us for use in our parish. Daughters of Isabella to Meet The Daughters of Isabella regular monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 1st at the Knights of Columbus Hall . Rosary will be recited at 6 pm and meeting at 6:30 pm.

JOIN US FOR VBS! Plunge in to VBS 2018! At Splash Can-yon VBS, your children will learn that God keeps his promises on life’s wild ride! They’ll look into the Bible, God’s Holy Word, and explore five Bible accounts where our faithful God keeps his promis-es to be with us and gives us life and hope through Jesus, our Savior. Registration is open for ages 4 (potty trained), through 6th grade to attend VBS from June 4-8, 9 a.m. through 12:15 p.m. Come along with us as we sing fun songs, do crazy crafts, eat yummy snacks, play awesome games, and more. Plus, learn that all God’s promises are “Yes in Jesus”! Can’t wait to see you there! To register complete the registration packet in the gathering space or on our website, www.stmore.org and mail to us. The Deadline is May 4. Adult volunteers (Pre-K through 6th Grade) and Student volunteers (Grade 7th—12th) are needed. Application forms are in the gathering space and the deadline is May 4th. Safe Environment Do you volunteer with the Youth Group, Children’s Liturgy, Faith Formation, the nursery or any activity that involves children? If so, have you completed the Safe Environment Training required by the Diocese? It’s a simple pro-cess that is good for 5 years. You will need to complete an online training class (approximately one hour) and fill out a background check. Rosary Garden Club The St. Thomas More Rosary Garden Club will meet Monday, May 7 at 1:00pm in the Sacred Heart Room. Come and join us as we pray the Ro-sary together for the needs of our parish.
Spiritual Direction Sister Betty Drewes, a Benedictine Sister from Ferdinand, IN comes to Saint Thom-as More Parish once a month to provide spiritual direction. Hospice Volunteers Needed The Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center at Lourdes (aka Lourdes Hospice) seeks volunteers to assist in a number of roles: patient/family support, clerical du-ties, reception desk, and community edu-cation resource. WHY DO WE DO THAT?
Catholic Traditions Explained Question: My best friend is Lutheran and is a good Christian. I would like her to be my child's sponsor, but I'm wondering, does she have to be a practicing Catholic? Answer: The practice of two godparents for an in-fant's baptism goes back to the time when church law and civil law were one and the same in Europe. If anything did happen to the parents, the custody and well-being of the child became the responsibility of the godparents. Adult baptism required that one have a sponsor from the church who would act as a guide or mentor, in bringing the person to faith. Today, being a godparent has no legal implications. It is a spiritual matter. But at least one of the godparents must be a practicing Catholic. The other is called a Christian witness. This distinction recognizes the difference be-tween faith and religion. A Christian can be a witness be-cause of their relationship to God (faith), but the Catholic is a mentor in the practice of the religion. In any event, it is vital that parents give serious consider-ation to the people they choose to be a child's godpar-ents. That choice should be based on practice of faith, solid moral character, and ability to give good example. Too often the choice is left to whose turn it is in the family, or to friends that parents wish to honor or acknowledge in some way. Your choice of godparents is the first lesson of faith you teach your child. Make it count!

Whitewater Rafting Trip July 6-8, travel to Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort in Corbin, Kentucky, for a whitewater excursion beginning below the Cumberland Falls. We will leave Paducah on Friday afternoon, rafting all day Saturday, Mass on Sun-day morning, and Sunday brunch at Cumberland Falls Lodge before returning to Paducah. Rafting trip is $99 per adult ($89 ages 6-12) and includes lunch. Lodging, trans-portation to/from Corbin, and other meals are not includ-ed, with prices varying according to comfort level. Organi-zational meeting will be at Rosary Chapel (711 Ohio Street) on Sunday, May 6, at 5pm. Down payment of $99 ($89 youth) will be made, and lodging and transportation will be arranged. Adorers Needed When you look upon the Blessed Eucharist, you look up-on Jesus, the Son of God. "Indeed, this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son and be-lieves in him shall have eternal life. Him I will raise up on the last day." (Jn 6:40) Many time slots for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament are in need of a second Ador-er. Please take a few minutes to look over the current schedule and then contact the office if you would like to schedule your hour.
Mary Mother of God Monday, May 21 has been declared the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church. This me-morial will be celebrated every year on the Monday follow-ing Pentecost. Mary’s motherhood is linked to Pentecost in a special way because as the mystical Spouse of the Holy Spirit she is “the perfect image of what it means to be a disciple of Christ”.
